Go ahead and start up the panic machine.
Cooper missed today’s practice with an ankle injury that he suffered at the end of Wednesday’s practice. The severity of the injury is not known but it was enough for the Chiefs to at least cautiously keep him out of practice. That’s enough to make anyone anxious.
Without Cooper the Chiefs would be in a lot of trouble at cornerback. Not only would Sean Smith and Ron Parker be the starters but Phillip Gaines would be the primary backup. That’s not an ideal situation for the Chiefs in the long term even if they can patchwork it together for week one. KC needs Cooper healthy and active.
Thomas has what is described as a ‘slight hamstring injury.’ Tightness? Pull? Strain? We don’t know. But it is good to nip these hamstring things in the bud early because hamstring problem can last weeks if not dealt with properly. I’d rather the Chiefs be overly cautious with Thomas’ hammy than try to push him through it.
One would think we would know more about both of their conditions on Friday, but for now the unknowns are going to cause a lot of nightmares in many Chiefs fans minds (including myself).
