Kyle Williams is no longer a Kansas City Chiefs.
Williams, who was placed on the injured-reserve Saturday during the 53-man cutdown, was let go by the Chiefs today. In his short time with Kansas City, Williams suffered an ACL injury and injured his shoulder. The result was one game played for zero catches and no punt or kick returns. A time well spent indeed.
The reasoning for Williams appearance on the IR was because he of him getting laid out during the Green Bay game on Thursday trying to set a pick play. As one could imagine it did not end well for Williams.
(Williams is number 19 in the GIF.)
One would imagine Williams was initially kept on IR as insurance if the team was unable to add a wide receiver to the injured reserve. Kansas City signed both Fred Williams and Darryl Surgent to the practice squad and are rumored to be heavily pursuing Mark Harrison. These transactions made Williams expendable.
In addition to the Williams release, the Chiefs made the signing of Jerry Franklin to the practice squad official. The team has one more practice squad spot remaining.
#Chiefs have signed LB Jerry Franklin, Arkansas, to the practice squad and have released WR Kyle Williams, Arizona State.
