Derrick Thomas On His Way To College Football Hall Of Fame… Finally

An ESPN report says Derrick Thomas will finally be honored by the College Football Hall of Fame.

Derrick Thomas had 27 sacks in his senior year at Alabama. I want everyone to ponder how absolutely insane that is for a minute. I’ll wait.

Good Deity, how did it take so long for one of the greatest pass rushers in college football history – let along football history – to make the CFHOF? Thomas is in Canton, won the Butkus and finished in the top 10 of the Heisman voting in 1988, was a fourth overall selection in the NFL draft, and set single-season and career records for sacks at one of the most – if not the most – storied college football programs. But, yeah, let’s wait 26 years after his last college game to induct him into the hall of fame. Who votes on this stuff, Congress?

No matter, it appears the wrong is about to be righted and that’s a great thing for Thomas’ family and fans. It also gives us an excuse to show gratuitous highlight videos.

How was he not in there already!?!

No clue. Think he’d be in before he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Weird.

I remember the first game I saw Thomas play, I believe it was his freshman year. He was all over the field, and I believe had blocked a kick also. From that day forward I followed his career and was hoping the Chiefs would be able to draft him. Waiting for him was a long 4 years. Come draft day the story I heard was that Peterson also liked Brodrick Thomas and there was some discussion going on as to which the Chiefs should draft. In my mind it was a no brainer, Derrick all the way.
