Bovada, an online Las Vegas sports book, has released a fresh slate of Super Bowl odds now that the NFL draft and free agency are completed. Kansas City’s odds are a bit of a long shot but they are better than you might think.

Vegas sets the Chiefs odds at 33/1, on par with the Pittsburgh Steelers and ahead of the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, and Dallas Cowboys. Only the AFC West’s Denver Broncos (7/1) have better odds than the Chiefs.

If you break it down simply by the AFC, here are the rankings:

Denver: 7/1

New England: 15/2

Indianapolis: 20/1

Kansas City: 33/1

Pittsburgh: 33/1

Baltimore: 40/1

Cincinnati: 40/1

Houston: 40/1

San Diego: 40/1

Cleveland: 50/1

Miami: 50/1

New York Jets: 66/1

Buffalo: 75/1

Tennessee: 75/1

Jacksonville: 100/1

Oakland 100/1

By this standard there is reason to believe the Chiefs should be serious playoff contenders in 2014. While the Chiefs are probably looking at trying to get in via the wild card again, assuming these odds stay true, there is reason to believe Kansas City ranks well when compared to other AFC teams.

Hey, it isn’t perfect, but it is something.
