Kansas City Chiefs Select Aaron Murray With Fifth Round Pick

With the 23rd pick in the fifth round, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Aaron Murray, a quarterback from Georgia.

Here is the writeup from Nolan Nawrocki:

Has a quick release and is light enough on his feet to escape the first wave and make some plays on the move. Solid decision-maker — takes what the defense gives him. Fine short-to-intermediate accuracy. Good intangibles. Encouraging team leader with a likeable personality. Leads by example. Serves well as the face of the program. Outstanding work ethic. Is very intelligent and football smart. Experienced, four-year starter in the SEC.

Kansas City has two picks in the sixth round, the 17th and 24th picks in the round, later today. They are the final two picks the Chiefs have in the draft unless they trade down or back into the draft.

    Finally

  • micah stephenson

Quick! Somebody dail 911! I’m having a heart attack. Chiefs drafted a QB! (In my sanford and son voice) “I think this is the big one, Elizabeth I’m coming to join ya” lol.

    • KCMikeG

      LMAO! Except I wanted Boyd!

      • micah stephenson

We can still get Boyd. We b loaded at qb.

      • micah stephenson

If Wr Janis is available I’d grab him and a TE or Boyd.

        • KCMikeG

Huge risk/reward Lyeria? or play it safe with Jensen at TE?

    • trinity

Lol I’m stunned they did it

  • KCMikeG

So how does this effect AS11′s contract?

    • Nick Hettinger

It doesn’t, at all… Bray, Murray and and Daniel are going to compete for 2nd string but more than likely it’s just going to be Murray and Bray competing for 3rd string..

    • trinity

I hear the talks aren’t going well between alex and the chiefs. Maybe the organization felt it wise to pick up an insurance policy.

      • John Walsh

Talks aren’t going well according to who? That’s the problem with the media. Unsubstantiated rumors that have no basis in fact. You’ll never see AS whining about a contract to the press, let alone leaking anything to gain leverage. :) It’ll get done, probably with what’s best for the team as part of his thinking.

        • trinity

None of us are there with them while they have these talks, so all you can really do is go by what you read and decide if you can trust it or not. Sure it could very well be untrue, but until it’s proven to be false, I don’t have a problem believing talks have stalled. Sure Alex doesn’t seem like the guy to say screw the team, but he’s definitely going to try to get as much money as he can get out of them. I say that because he didn’t even want to sign the contract he is currently on. I think what he’s currently getting paid is a perfect salary for what he brings to the table. But considering how this went for him last time, I could easily see him trying to milk it. We’ll see.

  • trinity

    Yay chiefs! A shocking move

  • micah stephenson

Nana na na, nana na na, hey Ass11, good bye! Lol

    • HellloooNewman

Yeah, let’s run Alex Smith outta town. He only lead us to our first playoff berth in forever, and did everything he was supposed to to win that game (until the D gave it away). Not to mention he cost us this years AND next years 2nd. Let’s push him out. Good plan.

      Twit.

      • micah stephenson

We just made the playoffs a few yrs ago with Cassel at the helm.

        • HellloooNewman

Allow me to clarify. He lead us into the playoffs as a legitimate threat, which was a first in forever. That Cassel team barely deserved their nod, and had no shot against Baltimore.

          • micah stephenson

I think it was charles who led us, not Smith.

          • HellloooNewman

You are proved wrong by that Colts game. Charles sits more most of it, and Smith leads us to what should’ve been a lopsided win, if the D didn’t absolutely collapse.

          • micah stephenson

Where was smith in the 2nd half when we just needed mayby one score? And one good game ain’t enough for me to b happy with a Qb that is gone keep get n us 8-9 win seasons and mayby an occasional wild card berth but not a super bowl berth.

          • HellloooNewman

Just needed 1 more score?!? 40+ points isn’t enough for you?!? Do you even understand football?

          • micah stephenson

No its not enough pts when u still lose.

          • HellloooNewman

            ……
He lead the team to 44 points. That is MORE than enough to win a playoff game. It was the defense that letdown the team. That is obvious dude.
But hey, don’t let facts and common sense get in the way of your blind, irrational hate.

      • micah stephenson

Hey, sign a reasonable contract or hit the road. It his choice. We not running him off.

        • HellloooNewman

You’re right. WE aren’t. YOU seem to be though.

          • micah stephenson

He can stay. It just gone b at a reasonable price. And he needs to have serious comp and we need insurance/qbotf anyway.

    • Nick Hettinger

AS11 isn’t going anywhere any time soon..

    • John Walsh

Every village needs an idiot. Welcome home, Micah. Your obsession won’t bear fruit, even with a QB drafted. As far as the big one goes, it’ll work for you the way it eventually did for Red. At least, now you got someone new to replace Geno Smith. That’ll also mean a new tube of hand lotion.

  • micah stephenson

This kinda makes up for drafting a 5’9 rb who only ran a 4.5 last rd even tho Alex needs more rbs to check down to. Lol

    • Nick Hettinger

A 5’9 college RB who will be a phenominal KR PR in the NFL and will also see some WR and RB reps.. Grade, A. And I believe he clocked a 4.39 at his pro day, solid pickup.

      • micah stephenson

No. He ran a slow 4.5 something. At his hieght and weight he shud b high 4.4 or 4. 3 something. But he just another check down target anhway.

        • CSconce

Micah is wrong yet again.. He ran a 4.34 and a 4.35 at his pro day!

          • micah stephenson

If he ran a 4.3 ill reserve judgement. Was kinda hoping for a 4.3 wr somewhere in the draft.

  • Dustin McLaughlin

Can we close this tread so we don’t have to hear any more of Micah’s ramblings?

Hopefully they can extend Alex Smith with a reasonable contract, but if not this gives us some flexability.

    • micah stephenson

Dude, you have to shut down the whole site mayby the whole internet to shut me up. Lol

      • Dustin McLaughlin

I am pretty sure even if the internet was shut down, your posts would haunt me in my dreams. Lol

  • micah stephenson

Uh oooo Ass1, you better sign for less. No other team wants or needs you and we have young QBs get n ready to go!

    • HellloooNewman

Kindly remove your head from your overly large rectal orifice.

      • micah stephenson

I would if I wasn’t busy all up n your girlfriends orifice.

        • HellloooNewman

          Classy.

          • Stan

Micah is a complete A hole

          • micah stephenson

I can live with that. It wouldnt b the 1st time somebody felt that way.

          • sidibeke

            You crack me up.

          • sidibeke

You realize the irony of this post, yes?

          • HellloooNewman

            Of course. :)

  • Dustin McLaughlin

Just a though…what if the chiefs are impressed with Murray and Bray? We are paying an awful lot for a backup in Chase Daniel, and while I like him (Mizzou fan) and it is hard to have two completely NFL inexperienced QBs on the roster, that would free up some valuable cap space.

  • micah stephenson

I still can’t believe it. Ima wake any moment here.

    • Chris Tarrants

Hahaha I’m with you on that, never thought they would actually draft a qb

  • micah stephenson

Any chance its any good wrs or tes left?

  • Blake Molina

Can’t believe Murray fell to the fifth round. Love it. Best player available philosophy in full effect with Murray and Thomas

  • Stacy D. Smith

Swoon. I can’t say enough about this pick. I absolutely love it. This kid was insanely productive in arguably the toughest conference in football. He has all the tools. I’m so excited about his future.
