2014 Kansas City Chiefs Undrafted Free Agents Thread

The NFL Draft is over and the Kansas City Chiefs have added six players to the 2014 roster. Now the Chiefs will have the opportunity to add a few more player who made it through all seven rounds of the draft without getting drafted.

Last year the Chiefs were able to add Tyler Bray to the team via undrafted free agents, and the Chiefs have a history with players like Brian Waters and Priest Holmes who were great players that went undrafted.

Some names of interest to the Chiefs: Jackson Jeffcoat, Brandon Coleman, Mike Davis, L’Damian Washington, Antonio Richardson, Cornelius Lucas, Colt Lyeria, Loucheiz Purifoy, Chris Davis, Craig Loston, Dion Bailey, Silas redd, Damien Williams, David Fluellen, and Henry Josey.

We’ll keep tabs on the players who are signed by the Chiefs here.

I find it funny that after all the talking heads and all of us fans have talked about which star WR or even which two WR we were going to draft we didn’t really get one. Sure we got a slot reciever but he doesn’t count because he will be a converted RB. The front office knows something and my money is on the fact that Jenkins is going to be a stud! Only time will tell but I love the way this draft panned out

    • tm1946

Cannot miss, think he caught about 8 passes last season, but the current training cycle shows how improved he is.

      • Chris Tarrants

I agree he didn’t do much last year but he did flash his potential. Given a whole offseason and camp with Smith and Reid and I got a feeling that people are going to be pointing fingers in San Fran

        • John Walsh

Jenkins’ basic problem was getting a chance to play. The Niners had a problem with giving rookies time in the starting lineup. With an off season to practice, learn the playbook and a full training camp, he might produce surprising results.

          • area

Are you implying that Jon Baldwin may fail in S.F.?

          • berttheclock

Implying? I doubt he will make it out of training camp. Harbaugh has given him chance after chance and he still fails trying to separate. Now, Baalke has added even more wide out competition and bringing in Steve Johnson from Buffalo spelled the Kiss of Death to Baldwin.

          • tm1946

bert, funny during the weeks before the draft I do not recall anyone even mentioning Jenkins as an answer at WR2. But afterward, he seems to be the next coming. odd, how after the Chiefs do not draft a single WR, he gets so good. Seems to me he was the same guy before the draft and afterward but the spin begins.

          • area

There was a lot of talk on different sites guessing the f.o.’s thoughts on AJJ, whether a person believes it or not the kid showed up clutch in a few opportune plays. Concede the playmaking to AS11 extending the play, AR’s designs, or even karma..AJJ’s stock rose late in the season.

          • tm1946

I will defer to bert AJ is our last hope mainly because Pioli 2.0 could not either position the team or like a kid enough to draft a WR.

It happens and my only complaint is the spin that a guy who caught 9 passes last year was not very good and today a guy who caught 9 passes last year is ready to bust out as a #2 WR.

Might as well burnt the rest of my bridges – Hali, after Ford selection, became to old, had to high a contract, and was fat. EXcept no one talked about this before Ford’s selection. The SPIN is there and the team has to play 2014 with a bunch of good kids who will be ready for the 2015 season.

          • KCMikeG

Everyone seems to be forgetting Hemingway. I have had my eye on him since camp in 2012. Even though he was only targeted 19 times last year he caught almost 70% of them and scored twice. If given more targets he will produce!

          • Michael Shaw

You do make a good point. But it could just be plain old optimism that we won’t suck after losing so many guys and not having much leverage in the draft……….????

          • berttheclock

He is our Last Hope. I still think Baalke out thought Dorsey by giving away a future 4th which could become a 3rd for Steve Johnson. We are going to gain compensatory picks next year which could meant our 3rd could have been used for Johnson. But, it is what it is and we have to move onward.

          • berttheclock

I thought it was humorous when Ben posted a thread after the first two rounds of Jenkins surviving.

          • area

Should of highlighted my statement with the sarcasm font

          • berttheclock

That is one of the major problems with using the net. I have run into often as when I first started posting on political and sports sites, I only went there to snark. Amazing how many times I was misunderstood.

          • berttheclock

Plus, an off season in the weight room gaining strength. Baalke said the reason he traded him he thought he was too weak.

          • tm1946

Guess you know, SF just did not give him a chance, after all 1st round pick and bench him. We played around with Baldwin and got chance after chance showed up for one preseason period.
Jenkins better show up as there is no one else on the roster right now. During the draft I asked about WRs and one writer on this site said we need 1 or 2 WR in the draft…… guess that was un-necessary conversation.

          • berttheclock

Just remember, Abbederis went to GB just a few picks after we took Murray. Now, he is a not as speed burner, but, he can really get open and move the chains.

          • tm1946

Good for GB. You are a superior researcher and I believe you are a thinker, not just a herd type. So I suggest this draft will bear real fruit in 2015 and later but almost every pick can be inactive for the 2014 season because there is someone on the roster ahead of them. Sure they will play but baring injury, trades, fat there is no need to force feed these kids to play for the Chiefs to succeed this year.

          • mnelson52

That didn’t mean the writer was correct. You seem to believe only the writers that state what you want to hear. Maybe the offensive players we got will buy time for our receivers to complete their routes.

    • Brody Hall

I think the dude from the CFL is impressing Dorsey and Reid

    • KCMikeG

AJJ and Hemingway will both step up and be starters.

    • steve james

Wow. Such a different attitude than years past around the community. Everyone wanted a WR. Dorsey didn’t get one. You say its ok, they know what they’re doing, it means good things I love it! Instead off what a moron! Wasted pick! I hate it this team is going to suck! Why don’t they trade every pick to get a QB! Owell we will draft in the top 5 next year. It’s refreshing. Can’t wait to go to camp, Go Chiefs!!

      • berttheclock

Not to forget the often posted “Hunt is cheap” nonsense.

        • tm1946

Bert, sorry but with the schedule, missing pieces, cap hell, and this draft, this year could easily turn into something hard to deal with. So venting might not be the worst thing in the world.

    • KCMikeG

Hemingway will play a bigger role too.

      • Chris Tarrants

I hope so, love having “Big Play” Hemmingway on our squad. He reminds me of Bowe with out the show! Big, not very fast but leaping ability and great hands on tough catches. I just hope he doesn’t learn Bowes habit of having stone hands on easy grabs. I still wish they could have found a way to keep Rico Richardson last year, he looked like he had a lot of promise

        • KCMikeG

I see Hemingway getting more opportunities since he is a strong possession WR. I hope to see more slants for him and a rejuvenated Bowe. My son & I both really like Rico in camp too.

  • mnelson52

Although I’m not familiar with either one, I’m glad they got two receivers for competition.

  • Auburn78

Jeffcoat, Washington, and Lyerla would have been my first 3 calls.

  • Matt Davis

Colt should be a huge one we go after anything being heard on your end?

    • berttheclock

Whom do you suggest to baby sit him?

      • Matt Davis

Ried has a long reputation of being able to handle problem players plus the locker room is very strong and has a fantastic veteran influence

        • berttheclock

I realize that, but, cocaine has a strong pull. However, it is even more than that. He is a tremendous athlete, but, he can has major problems controlling his mouth. Being in the pros would give him even a bigger platform to vent his ridiculous conspiracy theories.

          • Matt Davis

Your a 100% correct those things are all major concerns. However, life is about second chances and with us getting him as an undrafted it would give a lot bigger chance if reward than risk. I don’t think we are going after him though

          • berttheclock

Huge shame as I thought he was going to be better than the TE Detroit took in the 1st round. One thing about Nike U. They do stock up with exceptional athletes.

  • Montez K.

L’Damian Washington…even if it isn’t us–SOMEONE needs to sign him.

    • mnelson52

      I thought the same thing

    • David Gonzales

      4.4 speed @ 6’4″

  • Chris Franklin

How do players like tiny Richardson, purifoy, Bailey, and Christian jones go undrafted? Are they hurt or just bad character?

  • unclejesse40

I want us to sign Brandon Coleman ASAP! Would love to have a 6’6″ WR for AS to throw to.

    • David Gonzales

Brandon Coleman is a HUGE redzone target.

    • unclejesse40

Darn, New Orleans already signed him.

  • unclejesse40

Would also like to see them pick up Luke Lucas as a developmental OT.

    • unclejesse40

      Signed with Detroit.

  • unclejesse40

Marcus Williams the cornerback out of North Dakota State would have some value.

  • Doug Jones

LBs Carlos Fields and Andrew Wilson to go along with Mizzou players Josey and Washington would be nice!!!

  • KCMikeG

Let’s sign Xavius Boyd OLB WKY! We let my favorite ILB Andrew Jackson go to the Colts.

  • Stacy D. Smith

Albert Wilson and Daniel Sorenson are notable UDFA snags.

  • ladner morse

    RB Joey Demartino, Utah State
    LB Ben Johnson, Tennessee-Martin
    C Cole Pensick, Nebraska
    K Cairo Santos, Tulane

    • Stan Colbert

If someone had a desire to objectively evaluateDorsey’s talent evaluating ability he provided an opportunity. In his second day PC he stated at the time of pick 87 there were three prospects they had rated equally. They chose Gaines. He then informed, after, boom boom the next two were taken. I checked 88 DT, 89 OG. If someone had time he could remember, and keep an eye on these 3 players careers.

      • berttheclock

Well, with Chris Watt, who was taken at 89, we will find out as we play the Chargers twice a season. Some have written he can be bull rushed. As for Will Clarke, the DE who went to the Bengals, I believe he fits the 4-3 better than our 3-4. But, he has a fine character and is coachable, so, Dorsey may have taken a chance on him to develop.

    • berttheclock

Gottschalk fits that LT move to guard, Dorsey favors.

Sorenson was a punter in HS, as well as dealing the Longhorns fits playing safety last year.

      • mnelson52

If Reid stays true to playing the best 5 best O-linemen he might use the LT from Canada as a roadgrader at guard.

  • micah stephenson

Anybody else tired of see n gay ass M.Sam on tv in a pink shirt kissin his fagot boyfriend? I am. Glad the Chiefs didn’t draft doo doo chaser. Lol.

    • Matt Davis

      Don’t be a bigot.

      • Merlin_Arrowhead_Addict

Often, the people that act like they are so offended by gay people are closeted gays themselves.

        • micah stephenson

Wrong! I got a different b**ch for every day of the week. I’m just an alpha male who don’t like bitchassness.

          • TwistedLefty

fixed–Wrong! I got a different butch for every day of the week. I’m just an alpha male who don’t like bitchassness.

          • Deadmeat

I could to, if I paid them by the hour..:)

    • berttheclock

For once in your life, show some class. The Rams did.

      • micah stephenson

I forgot STL had more gays tha San Francisco and ATL put together. He ought to fit right in.

        • berttheclock

Keep using your shovel to dig the hole deeper, micah. Double down on your bigotry.

          • micah stephenson

If bigotry means not associating with them, I’m all in.

        • mnelson52

You’re as bad as the media. If you don’t keep bringing it up it will fade away.

    • mattU

Either quit trolling or grow up man. The fact you care so much about who and what he does in his personal life just shows you’re not comfortable with your own sexuality. It’s a professional sport, and all that matters is what they do on the field.

I will say that I’m sick of all the coverage. He’s gay…Ok, I understand: any coverage beyond his press conference at the combine is now unnecessary. Michael Sam is an end-of-the 7th round prospect because he’s slow and has a 25 inch vertical. The fact he’s getting so much publicity for being selected in the 7th shows prejudice in itself. If it were really about equal treatment, nobody would give a shit the Rams signed him because he’s a 7th round pick who probably won’t be in the league in 3 years, just like 95% of all other 7th round selections.

      • micah stephenson

All you had to say is yes.

      • micah stephenson

I don’t give a beep what dude do. I’m just tired of see him on tv.

  • berttheclock

I really hope Sunday in Istanbul is a very long day of rest for young Mr Clayton, who did a great job during the 3 days of hype and hope. But, I have read how beer sales shot up there the last few days.

  • berttheclock

I just finished reading the Canadian paper report of the drafting of Duvernay-Tardif. I had read about his visiting the Chiefs, but, I didn’t know the extent of that meeting. He said management and coaches sat down with him and discussed his life and his expectations for finishing medical school. They really treated him as a person. Shows great due diligence by Mr Dorsey for finding him in the first place and doing face to face research with him. He follows the footsteps of Jean-Philippe Darche, the former long snapper for the Chiefs who will become Dr Darche, next week at the KU Medical Center. BTW, Cory Greenwood of Concordia University in Canada was another Canadian who played for the Chiefs.

    • Stan Colbert

The Chiefs “discovered” Tardif at the Shrine game. They may have known him before, but when he matched up and didn’t suck they decided to check him out.

  • mattU

I was really hoping we could pick up Rashaad Reynolds. He tied for fastest short shuttle at the combine and was top 10 in nearly every other workout to go along with solid production at Oregon St…Seemed like he could have been someone to possibly take over for Flowers in the next 2-3 years. It’s hard to understand how he fell out of the draft…I see similar-sized guys with worse measurables and less college production went in the 4-5th rounds (ie Nevin Lawson in the 4th).

    • berttheclock

Interesting for the Chiefs in that in the Oregonian article about him, last week, it was suggested he is a Chris Owens type of corner.

    • berttheclock

He has signed with the Jags, darn it.

  • Erik Hild

Even though he has had off the field issues does anyone else think the Chiefs should try and sign L’damian Washington?

    • mattU

He already signed with the Cowboys…Would have been a nice pick up though.

  • Auburn78

Am I the only one laughing at SF saying the reason they traded for Stevie Johnson was the need to give CK options in the passing game….since ya know Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree, & Vernon Davis just aren’t enough. Good gawd I wish we had that problem. And why in the hell aren’t the ever the guys trading a mid round pick for a starting caliber WR. I’d have given a 4th for Stevie Johnson in a heartbeat

    • berttheclock

Yeah, and it is next year’s fourth round pick. I wonder if Dorsey was a little slow in calling Buffalo? But, the Boldin thing is one of age. Look at the way Baalke added to his receiving corps and you will understand why Baldwin is checking out U-Haul prices from SF to Pittsburgh and that does not mean the U-Haul will end up at the Steelers camp.

      • Auburn78

Bowe 57 rec 673 yds 5 RD. Boldin 85 rec 1,179 yds 7 TD. This was last year. Yah he’s getting long in the tooth…. but still putting our #1 to shame. With their bottleneck at WR…( didn’t they sign Brandon Lloyd too) maybe we can get Crabtree at a cheap price. He seems to be odd man out. And he probably needs a change of scenery.

        • berttheclock

Yeah, and to think in 2003, Boldin was the slowest of 24 wide outs at the combine. In fact, he went in the 2nd round to the Cards because they took a wide out in the first round who was one of the fastest. Boldin beat him out in training camp.

          • Auburn78

Speed isn’teverything. We just act like it is. A receiver who runs crisp routes and can beat the press is invaluable. I don’t care if you run a 4.3, if you get jammed at the line every time you aren’t doing anyone any good.

    • berttheclock

Of course, I await Eric Berry laying out Stevie Johnson when the Chiefs play the Niners.

      • Chris Tarrants

Or see what kinda thump Commings has as he lays one as legally close to his chin as possible

  • wegman8

I sure hope Jeffcoat is picked up by chiefs…great developmental player with bloodline!!!
