Message Sent To Tamba Hali?

It is official: Dee Ford is the Kansas City Chiefs first round pick, and that may not be sitting well with Tamba Hali. Minutes after the selection of Ford and the Twitters went ablaze, Hali fired off these consecutive retweets.

Has a message been sent to Hali or is this Hali using some social media vitriol as extra motivation for the offseason?

What we do know is Hali’s career is on the downward slide simply because he is not getting any younger. This was noticeable in the second half of last season after Justin Houston went down and Hali had to take the brunt of the opposition’s pass protection. There was little doubt the Chiefs needed to add some extra pass rush to the defense during the draft. Doing so in the first round says how important it is to Bob Sutton’s scheme.

The only way Kansas City will be successful in 2014 on defense is if Hali, Houston, and now Ford can bring constant pressure off the edge. Having a motivate Hali isn’t going to hurt that cause.

Solid pick, this is a deep receiver draft so im not worried but we got torched in the 2nd half of the season because there was no pass rush. So we picked up Vance and Ford, im in!! #Chiefs

      Agree 100%

I’ll be the last to get on the dump Hali train. I’d like to see bowe’s weight

    • Kcfan

I don’t to dump either. But the truth is this could be boths last year. I think Bowes playoff game of 150 and a score is more in line of what is to come though so I prefer bowe

      • Kcfan

        *dont want to dump either

6 rounds and 4 picks to fill all the holes! We will need a QB next year if they can’t sign Smith to a contract. No one really to block for Smith and he ran so much last year Get used to it Alex! We need OL and we passed on a good one! So where are we going to get the Picks from? Might get 2 second rounders for Hali and Flowers? that would free Up cap space and get 2 picks!

  • Josh Michaels

    Amen, Ben.. Amen

I think the message is, “You’re not making 12M next year.” Let’s see DB, WR/KR and some OL maybe RB depth. And, it’d be nice if Nico and Kelce live up to their draft positions.

This actually makes sense (after the shock wears off).. Sutton’s defense with based on putting MAJOR pressure on the QB. So having 3 pass rushers to rotate for fresh legs not to mention injury. Plus Tamba is 30 and 2 more years on his big contact.. 11M for the next 2 years.. People are talking of trading,, I personally hope (if he is still playing at high level) the add a couple of years then drop the cap hit. Basically he takes a pay cut to stay and retire a Chief.. His leadership and work ethic by leading by example in huge in the locker room.

With Hali’s additional off-season heft at 285+lbs, how about seeing what he looks like at DE? Similar height/weight to Cameron Jordan in New Orleans. Let’s ditch the antiquated Romeo 3-4 personnel mold and get to where the entire front 7 can pressure the QB.

      • Redblack564

That is correct. I wonder if Dorsey thought about drafting Ealy ? 6-5 275lbs he could have always added or lost weight depending on where they wanted him

      • JN

True. I thought the same thing. DeVito, Poe, Hali up front, Houston and Ford rushing from the edges. Hali if gained 10-15 pounds would do good in a 3-4 system. Real upgrade over Tin Man

        • cyberry

Let’s remember now..(So everyone doesn’t start yelling BUST!!).. He is moving from DE to OLB..he has never had to worry about coverage before plus he is only 240 ilbs.. he needs strength, weight and technique.. Tamba has went to several pro-bowls in a row and is considered one of the best Pass-Rusher in the NFL… don’t mess with it. Especially for a kid who hasn’t earned his stripes yet. Reid doesn’t start anyone without them earning it.

      • cyberry

Tamba’s playing weight in 275 Ilbs.. so he was only over 9 ILBs. Coach Reid laughed about it and responded …that Hali was a work out worries

I am shocked! I thought a back up would be drafted, but not round #1! This fits Dorsey philosophy, but Fisher played and started. How does Ford get on the field, other than injury or 3rd down.

    • Kcfan

There are plenty of snaps available for ford to have an immediate impact. I expect 8.5+ sacks with a couple FF. I think we all would say that is a win

  • The other mac

I’ll just say that there are always ‘areas that need to be addressed’ on the roster. The Chiefs as a whole became less dominate when the pressure was gone from the absence of Hali & Houston. Good Solid pick up imo… I would take it a step further and say that we cannot judge one pick fully until the draft has gone thru a few rounds. We’ll be able to see if those other ‘areas’ will be filled with other quality players. D Ford made sure Sutton won’t have to be filling that blue pill script anytime soon!!

  • Daniel Mayfield

I’m glad everybody has finally cooled down about it. Hopefully Hali don’t go crazy about it.
