Quintin Demps Signs With New York Giants

Kansas City Chiefs free agent Quintin Demps has signed with the New York Giants.

This leaves Kyle Williams and Kendrick Lewis as the remaining unsigned Chiefs free agents.

Demps did an excellent job as a kickoff return man for the Chiefs, ranking second in the NFL in kick return grade according to Pro Football Focus. Demps averaged 30.1 yards per kick return and took a kick back for a touchdown against Washington in week 13.

His performance as a safety wasn’t quite as stellar although he did intercept four passes as a rotational player.

Losing Demps was not unexpected but it does compound the situation with Emmanuel Sanders. Sanders is a solid return man in addition to being a good receiver. Kansas City will either now rely on Knile Davis to return kicks or look for another option via free agency or the draft.

On defense Demps is replaceable. His spot on the roster may end up being consumed by a draft pick in May. The Chiefs don’t really lose much with him no longer being in the secondary.

As the late great Fats Waller would say, “One never knows, do one” about the off season conditioning of Joe McKnight. He is, also, a return man.

Bummed out on this one, I liked Demps and thought he was a good starter regardless of position he was playing.

Hilton is looking forward to running past him, once again, when the Colts visit the Giants in the fall.

So at the moment we have no good return man. Kniles Davis??

Good return man but average to below average as a safety. Chiefs can find a replacement in the return game so it is a loss but not a huge loss.

You hit the nail on the head… Demps is a quality ST player, but below average when it came to defense! That was obvious from his play, angles, etc… Many forget the signing of McKnight from the NYJ who has the capability to be dangereous. Not buried on the depth chart & knowing what he’s fighting for, he may well step up not only to return on special teams, but to fill-in behind JC & Davis in the 3rd RB slot…
He catches fairly well out of the back-field & that plays into the Chief’s general game-plan.
