Adding Two Teams To The Playoffs
The NFL wants to add two more teams, one in each conference, so there would only be one team in each conference who gets a bye week. In his article called, “Roger Goodell: Playoff expansion a possibility for 2015” Chris Wesseling said,
"“The NFL’s competition committee opted against a recommendation last March that would expand the playoff field in the near future. Commissioner Roger Goodell made it clear Tuesday during the NFL Fall Meeting that the issue is back on the table.”"
Goodell believes that if two more teams can get in it will be good for those teams and their fans and it gives more teams to the chance to win the Super Bowl each year.
If there are currently 12 teams making the playoffs then it looks like two more wouldn’t be a burden to the playoff system. The big question is, where does it all end? Does Goodell eventually envision a 16 team tournament? 32 teams?
One aspect of the NBA season I have a love-hate relationship with is that there are always a number of losing teams who make the postseason playoffs. I’ve always thought that should automatically disqualify you. Who knows what can happen once the playoffs begin and consequently, who wants a losing team for a league champion? Expansion can be good… but it has it’s limitations.
