NFL Rumors: Husain Abdullah Returning to KC?

Hey, it looks like the Chiefs are going to be able to keep someone!

The team has not confirmed the deal yet and none of the local or national reporters have confirmed the report as of this moment. But there is this:

Abdullah would be a key signing for the Chiefs who probably are going to with him and Sanders Comings at free safety. Last time we saw Abdullah in action he picked off Andrew Luck twice and allowed only three receptions on seven targets. For the season he allowed only 16 receptions on 27 targets and saw his playing time increase as the season progressed. His final PFF grade was +6 with a +4.7 coverage grade.

It still wouldn’t be a surprise if the Chiefs added one more safety via the draft or free agency but it doesn’t look like they are going to make a play for a big name like Jairus Byrd. Kansas City may be thinking corner over safety if they can keep Abdullah as Getlin suggests they will.

YESSSSS!!! This just made my day. I was really hoping he would be back. GO CHIEFS!!!!

  • Stacy D. Smith

    The two-year deal is done!

    • Justin R Groth

probably a pipe dream but what would you think of moving Commings to CB signing a fast FS like Clemons (ran a 4.4) and signing either moore or Avant. Thus leaving us really only immediate holes on the Oline, Dline, and ILB. With ILB and Dline being covered possible by N. Johnson and Bailey? Draft one the top two prospects at G in first round, pick up another WR in the third?

      • Josh Landers

Not a bad plan but what about starting Abdullah? He graded out well when given playing time. I’ve been saying this for a few weeks. And we could use commings as a cb/fs hybrid depending on package. I guess well see. GO CHIEFS!!!

        • Justin R Groth

Im just not sure if Abdullah has the speed needed to run the one high safety scheme. That is what made Kendrick look soooo bad. Don’t get me wrong he is great depth and in a 2 high safety scheme i think he would florish (Abdullah) and i think Kendrick if he goes to the right system could be revived in a sense.

          • Josh Landers

I think he’ll be fine. He plays faster than he is, I think. Although I really don’t think he’s that slow. Especially not Lewis slow. And it appears that he has good instincts. He’ll be ok.

          • Justin R Groth

True he is faster Abdullah ran a 4.63 Lewis a 4.73 but Clemons 4.41 (nfl.com) and commings 4.41* (unofficial time)

          • Josh Landers

I have high hopes for commings but he has almost no playing time. In a perfect world he would be ready to start in week 1. And Clemons wouldn’t be a bad pickup. I just don’t think he is a NEED with the Abdullah signing. I would rather see that money go to golden Tate or Jason avant. With half of our o-line jumping ship, were probably not gonna be putting much stock in wr’s in the draft. The fa market for guards is pretty thin. The only certainties along the live are Hudson, Stephenson, and fisher. Allen sucks but I think Reid is trying to develop him so we may only really NEED one guard. Anyway, enough rambling. Lol. GO CHIEFS!!!

          • Justin R Groth

Oh I wouldn’t b!+*# and moan about Abdullah being a starter I just think Clemons would potentially be better in our scheme. As for commings he would be 4th cb in my scenario giving him a chance to develop without throwing him to the wolves. curious about Tate, because mentally I thought it would be either Moore or Avant but I would be happy with Tate

    • Tristian

Was he the one who had 2 picks in the playoff game? Or was it commings?

      • Stacy D. Smith

        It was Abdullah!

      • Josh Landers

        It was Abdullah.

  • berttheclock

Jarius Byrd is the pipe dream, but, Chris Clemons, anyone?

    • Justin R Groth

That is who i have as a possible FS FA fit.

  • gonzangkc1

Husain Abdullah – Love this dude skills. CHIEFS FRONT OFFICE: at least call & show interest in Jared Allen, he’s in Denver now speaking with John Elway (ripping my heart out, another former Chief…thinking of signing in Denver…like Neil Smith). Since you didn’t even make a call to Lamarr Houston, now a Bear.

    • Stan Smith

Jared Allen plays 4-3 not 3-4

    • berttheclock

Smith is correct about his playing the 4-3. Now, he may help the Broncos, but, he is slowing and his sacks are coming more from coverage sacks, meaning, the coverage down field is so good the QB ends up holding the ball far too long. He doesn’t have that great burst he once possessed.

  • tazer15

I like this deal but I’m in morning over DMC and Geoff.I can’t stand Albert I’m glad that false starting whinny ass is gone no more drama.

  • Hawthorne

Thank goodness for that. I think with him and Commings we are set at FS, though I would like to see us develop DeMarcus VanDyke to play FS 6-1 and 4.26 40, but tends to overrun his receivers when playing CB, could make a perfect ball hawk with some development.

  • Hawthorne

Looks like our biggest holes are OLINE!!!!!! In that order.

  • tazer15

So we have him resigned now along with Commings if we resign Demps. We aren’t drafting a safety atleast early??? Looks like leaning toward a WR in Rd 1???

    • Josh Landers

Maybe but I think og is our number one priority at the moment. Plenty of wr’s later in the draft if we pass on one in the first.
