We have another name to throw into the “Chiefs Interest” pool: Devin Hester.

Kansas City is about to lose their primary punt returner in Dexter McCluster to free agency so the role is open. Who better to fill that role than maybe the greatest kick and punt returner of all-time? Hester would be reuniting with special teams coach Dave Toub if he were to sign with the Chiefs with whom Hester had a great deal of success.

The question here is whether Hester is a viable receiver or not. The Chiefs don’t want to waste a roster spot on a guy who can only return kicks and punts, they need that player to be versatile. It is hard to know how Hester would fit into the Chiefs offense or who he would be an upgrade over on the roster. This doesn’t mean Andy Reid couldn’t carve out a role for him as we know Hester is good in space and has speed. Is it worth it to carve out a role is the question.

Free agency begins today at 3 p.m. central.
