Finally! A rumor involving a player the Chiefs may obtain as opposed to lose. Red Bryant, a defensive end for the world champion Seattle Seahawks, was released today and a the Chiefs may be a potential landing spot for him.

Bryant would definitely the role expected to be left vacant by Tyson Jackson as an interior run stopper. Bryant played in 561 snaps last season, totaling 28 tackles and 26 run stuffs to go along with two sacks. And at six-feet, five-inches and 328 pounds, Bryant should be able to occupy some room on the interior defensive line as well.

The only issue here is Bryant is not much of a pass rusher. In six seasons he has only 3.5 career sacks, but he has been played a little bit out of position in Seattle’s scheme. Bryant was a fourth round draft pick by the Seahawks in 2008, well before Pete Carroll arrived in Seattle. Maybe there is some pass rushing ability in him KC can unlock in their 34 scheme.

Still, Kansas City could use all the depth they can get on the defensive line. If Bryant fills a first and second down role while a rookie lineman comes in as a designated pass rusher then that will work just fine.

What do you think? Should the Chiefs be interested in adding Bryant?
