Chiefs Free Agent Watch 2014: Jameel McClain Another LB Possibility

Another linebacker was the victim of roster cuts and became a salary cap casualty earlier today. Inside linebacker Jameel McClain, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens, is now in the unemployment line looking for work.

With D’Qwell Jackson of the Browns scheduled to visit five NFL teams including the Denver Broncos and Tennessee Titans — and not the Kansas City Chiefs as far as we can tell — McClain might be a better possibility to fill that ever present void next to Derrick Johnson.

McClain is not going to be a world-beater by far and won’t blow up the stat book, but he could be another temporary stop-gap to fill that spot either while Nico Johnson continues his improvement or the Chiefs find the permanent solution at inside linebacker. In 10 games last season, he had 52 tackles and a forced fumble. Either way, the team is going to have to do something, as right now, Johnson and Johnson are the only two players listed at the ILB position on the roster.

I suppose. If he can stop the run we want him because frankly anyone who can stop run and pass isnt out there especially in a pass happy league. The chiefs either seem not to concerned with the spot next to Johnson or they feel they can address it through the draft. To not even meet with either of these guys tells me that. People forget there are 2 free agency periods. One b4 the draft and one after it when “needs” have been filled by teams. Makes a difference

    Id take McClain AND Leach…

McClain’s not very good. I want Jackson if they’re going to fill the spot next to DJ via free agency.

In a perfect world it would be cool if the chiefs were able to draft a high upside but very raw ILB and to bring in via free agency one of those Bryan Cox type players that was a stud because he knew how to play the game regardless of the fact that he wasnt a freak of nature ( I read a report a long time ago where Cox said he couldnt bench 300 pounds and he ran less than a 5 sec 40, but he still got to three pro bowls). that way the young guy learns how to play the position the right way but is also a high talent guy. Hope that makes sense, I haven’t gotten much coffee yet this morning.
