So much for the idea of Jeremy Maclin coming back to the state of Missouri. Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting the Eagles plan on signing Maclin shortly after the completion of their deal with pending free agent Riley Cooper.

"The Eagles are also expected to sign free agent wide receiver Jeremy Maclin to a new deal, most likely a one-year, “show me” contract after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament last July."

There had been some hope Maclin would hit free agency and Andy Reid could lure the former Missouri receiver to the Chiefs to be the number two receiver next to Dwayne Bowe. This looks unlikely now, at least at the moment, given what is said in McLane’s report. We do know there is a high probability the Eagles will cut Jason Avant to make room for Maclin and Cooper, so there is still a chance Reid could bring one of his former Eagles players over to Kansas City to help rebuild the receiver group.

Until then let’s mourn the fact the Chiefs probably are not going to get the one-year deal we hoped they could get with Maclin.
