Branden Albert Tweets About Free Agency

It wouldn’t be an off-season without some Branden Albert Twitter news. Albert tweeted today about his contract status. Here’s what he had to say.

It isn’t a surprise Albert will be hitting free agency. Kansas City simply doesn’t have much cap room to both sign Albert and make the other moves necessary to fill holes on the roster. John Dorsey said during the combine he has been in contact with Albert’s agent, but that contact may have been to let him know a contract won’t be coming from the Chiefs. Free agency opens up March 11.

Albert made his first Pro Bowl this past season despite missing four games with a knee injury. Last off-season he was handed the franchise tag and then dangled as trade bait for most of March and April. It has been reported the best offer the Chiefs could get for Albert was a third round pick.

Arizona and Miami are two teams expected to make a run at Albert.

Albert leaving is a necessary evil

Can’t wait to get this free agency period going. I’m excited to see what Dorsey has in mind.

If they keep raising the cap and Dorsey restructures a couple of salaries the Chiefs might actually have some money to spend.

Correct me if I’m wrong but with him being a former first rounder and a probowl LT when he leaves we should get a 3rd rounder compensatory pick correct? Or is there more to it?

      • Stacy D. Smith

If I’m not mistaken, we wouldn’t get that compensatory pick until 2015.

        • Ben Nielsen

          Correct.

And Stacy, those comp picks come at the end of the round and are actually a 4th rd pick.

          • Stacy D. Smith

Yeah it’s at the end of the round, but the pick won’t actually be awarded until 2015.

I’m hopeful that with the extra cap space we pick up a FS. Not Byrd, way too expensive, but there should be some decent options and the draft is just not that deep at safety. Dix and Pryor will IMHO both be gone by 23 and Terrence Brooks is a reach in round 3 and out of reach in round 4. I think Commings is probably the answer and Kenny Ladler could be a great addition, but I’m not comfortable leaving such an important position is Sutton’s scheme in the hands of two later round rookies.

I have nothing against the guy, but I’m kind of tired of him and the drama. I think he overvalues himself, but so will another NFL team. Need to sign at least one between Schwarz and Asamoah; may not be able to sign both if they both want starter money.

Smith might want to start practicing picking his ass up off the ground.

Unfortunately, he’s had a lot of experience doing that. He did it in San Fran and he did it quite a bit this past year. The good news is that he seems to be getting quite skilled at scrambling to make something out of nothing, so he may do OK without Albert’s help. But I’d prefer to see Alex with lots of time to go through several reads. I think when he’s got enough time, he’s one of the more accurate and productive QB’s out there.

on current roster we have 2 centers, 7 guards, 4 tackles and on general Lineman. The experience ranges from 1 to 7 years. The above includes albert, asamoahm Schwartz. I say albert is too expensive… sign both Schwartz and Asamoah… Our line will be very serviceable. Fisher to LT, Schwartz LG Hudson C Asamoah RG Stephenson RT

Kush and Allen as backup, out of rest compete for two more backup spots.

I think you have a lot of solid talent in all these guys with most having one year under there belts in the System.

I think Fisher will be more at home on the left, get stronger in the training program and bounce back.

All these guys are young and have a lot to offer.

You can draft an additional tackle or FA tackle if needed but I don’t think it will.

Albert is probably the perfect example of how some team is going to mess up their cap by signing him. I don’t understand the mindset of people who want so much, that they put their team in jeopardy that they can’t improve the rest of the team. That is what I call a “Me” person, not a “team” person.

In other words we have a GM that failed to take what was offered and now we get nothing. An extra third rd pick would be pretty good as far as I am concerned. Also I think Flowers for a second pick would work for me too. Nate Allen and possibly John Jerry would be two free agents I would like to see the chiefs pick up if possible. WR Bryant if he falls to the third would be a possible field stretcher. His 40 time was just 4/10th of a second over the best time of the receivers and he has a 39 inch verticle and is 6’3″ tall. He could possibly be another Baldwin, but we have to take a chance once in awhile and I would rather take it in Round 3 or 4 than the first.

Not a huge proponent for letting Albert walk, however it is probably necessary to allow for the proper growth and maturity of this team. Aside from wide receiver and TE we’re stacked on offense, and so we must sure-up our secondary and LB positions. Forget Commings (another Percy Snow), he couldn’t even get outta diaper training last yr and no one really knows why……was his jock strap too tight???
