The Morning Fix: Chiefs News and Headlines 1/30/2014

Many people need their coffee to get up and going in the morning, and especially in the middle of the afternoon when things are starting to drag.  Here at Arrowhead Addict, we understand that for a Chiefs fan, coffee is simply not enough.

Here’s all that’s happening around Chiefs Kingdom today.

Welcome to The Fix.

It’s Thursday on the final week of the 2013 NFL season and at the Mothership this morning, Chiefs Insider Reid Ferrin is looking at several members of the team who are up for awards at Saturday night’s NFL Awards show. One of those awards is the “AP Comeback Player of the Year” nominee, Alex Smith.

In 2012, then-49ers QB Alex Smith started 10 regular season games for San Francisco, helping the club reach Super Bowl XLVII. Prior to being sidelined with a Week 10 injury against the St. Louis Rams, Smith threw for 1,737 yards, with 13 TDs and 5 INTs (104.1 passer rating). One year (and a trade to the Chiefs) later, in his first year in KC, the 2014 Pro Bowl QB, Smith finished 308 of 508 (60.6%) for 3,313 yards, 23 TDs and 7 INTs (89.1 passer rating), as well as 76 carries for 431 yards (5.7 avg) and one TD run that is worth watching again and again.

While we’re pretty certain that 95 percent of Chiefs Kingdom will NOT be supporting the Denver Broncos on Sunday in Super Bowl XLVIII, there is one member of the Chiefs who not only will be supporting them, but may be wearing their colors. Sam Mellinger from the Kansas City Star has the full scoop.

OK, well, it’s just that Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt kind-of, sort-of, maybe, definitely will be wearing some type of Broncos gear for the Super Bowl this weekend.

“I don’t know if you should quote me on that,” says Britton Colquitt, Dustin’s younger brother and the Broncos’ punter. “But he said he would, to support me.”

Don’t forget that picks 19-24 will be posting today starting at noon Arrowhead time in the first ever AA Writers Mock Draft. That means you’ll get to see who Senior Contributor Damian Nelson, aka Double D, mocked to the Chiefs. Don’t mis that!

Finally today, Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles will participate in a live chat this evening where fans will be able to submit questions via Twitter.

Here are the details:

The chat will be on January 30, 5:30 pm ET and will be streamed live on Facebook at Facebook.com/FedEx.

That’s it for the news today, Addicts. Enjoy your Thursday and GO CHIEFS!

I live in Denver (great town, lousy football team and no decent BBQ). I was in training, this fall, and being the proud Chief’s that I am I bet a number of my classmates (all diehard Bronco fans) that if the Chief’s won they had to wear red and if the Bronco’s won I would wear a Bronco’s T-shirt (popping tags at the thrift store). So twice this year I had to put on a lousy Bronco t-shirt. I told them I had to wash it 6 times to get out the funky smell and that it burned my skin when I put it on. I understand Dustin’s support of his brother but come on bro.

Count me in the 5% who will be rooting for the Broncos. Why would anyone not want the prestige which comes to our division if one of our teams win the Super Bowl.

  • jimfromkcj

Oh! and by the way, why the hate for a successful team like the Broncos? It would be better to place the hate where it belongs, if it belongs anywhere. The Hunt family are responsible for letting the team go downhill until empty seats and planes flying overhead with signs calling for change, finally embarrassed them into finally spending some money and getting back to respectability. Let’s see how long this lasts, or as we have seen before they will spend just what it takes to get the seats filled again and will go back to setting back and letting things go as long as the fans are stupid enough to accept whatever they decide to give them.

You sir ,are a traitor of the worst kind.

      • jimfromkcj

No I an not a traitor, Just smart enough to think for myself and not drinking the kool aid that the folks at arrowhead have been handing out for 40 years. And damned sure I don’t have to throw the hate word around to prove that I am a fan.

        • T.Hagen

You are probably a cool dude and I got friends that like the donkey’s but you can’t go for them unless you’re betting. The donkey’s sucks dick and the refs and I’m pretty sure the gestapo, Goodell cheat to see that Fucking piece of shit team win. He’ll Derrick Thomas got kicked out of kicked out of a game cause that worthless piece of shit Romanoski spit on him while Shannon the Faggot Sharpe danced and played the drums.

          • Jason Seibel

While I can definitely appreciate your passion for this rivalry and dislike for guys like Romanowski and Sharpe, I’d like to ask you to watch your language. We try to keep this as much a family show as we can around here. Thanks man. I appreciate it.

          • T.Hagen

Not only dislike for them, the whole team. Not dislike, hatred would be more like it. I don’t think I have used vulgar language before maybe a mild cuss word but i apologize for the bad language and try not to do that.

          • jimfromkcj

I don’t know how old you are and what your experience is, but one of the oldest tricks in the book is to spit on a guy in order for him to react and get a penalty. It ain’t no picnick in the trenchs and if a guy is playing at a pro level he just can’t be enticed into doing something in retaliation. If Derrick got thrown out of a game for such a silly thing like spit, he was just showing his immaturity and experienced playrs would be laughing at it.Football isn’t a game for anyone who can’t take it and dish it out in spades.

          • T.Hagen

I’m 46 and I was pretty young when that game was played. I remember the Chiefs were getting beat and Derrick grabbing Shannon Sharpe by the face mask, more than once and a fight broke out and Romanoski was in it and it looked like to me he spits on Derrick. Derrick should have kept his cool ,in fact he did apologize for his actions later, that doesn’t justify his behavior. I was raised in a chiefs household and used to go to games with the family when I was little, I would have to say I am a big fan. The Raiders were cheap shots back in the day but I just watched to many losses to the donkey’s and to me I can’t stand them. Put it this way, I would rather lose to the Raiders before i would to the donkey’s. Maybe I’m just jealous.
