Chiefs Safety Quintin Demps Talks Andy Reid, Playoff Loss and More

Kansas City Chiefs (soon to be free agent) safety Quintin Demps joined Danny Parkins and “The Drive” on 610 Sport Radio from Radio Row in New York City this afternoon to promote his new music label and talk Chiefs football. After Demps started out the interview a bit of freestyling, the questions turned to football.

The first question out of the gate was one that is weighing on a lot of Chiefs’ fans minds, and that is: will Demps be a Chief next season?

We won’t know until March. Let the chips where they’re going to fall. Absolutely. I love to be a Chief. I love to play for Andy Reid and be in that stadium.

Demps is on his third NFL team in his career and this is his second stint playing for Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. Parkins asked him what he thought about coach Reid.

Man Andy, he seems more laid back now. He’s not as tough as he used to be. I love his new attitude. He would push us more. Training camp was a beast. He would have no sympathy. Everybody loved playing for him.

A big question, of course, was in regards to the Chiefs heartbreaking loss to the Indianapolis Colts in the first round of the playoffs. “The Drive” asked Demps how long it took for him to get over that loss.

It actually took me about…till last week. I didn’t like that. Especially when you’re up 38-10 and they come back and beat. I don’t even like talking about it. It kind of disgusts me. It was unexplainable.

In regards to Demps return ability, the question came up whether it’s talent or because of special teams coordinator Dave Toub.

It’s hard to pinpoint. I’ve always been a good returner in the league. But he had Devin Hester. I think they go hand in hand. You can’t have one without the other. I definitely give credit to him and his scheme.

Finally, Parkins asked Demps who the best rapper in the Chiefs locker room is.

Me, [Eric] Berry or Tamba [Hali]. Me and Tamba talked about [working on a project together] it. We couldn’t get around to it. We were too focused on the season.

Demps is one of the Chiefs free agents I wouldn’t mind seeing back in red and yellow this season. What are your thoughts on the Chiefs prime kick returner and back up safety, Addicts?

I need to hear Eric and Quintin rhyme. Tamba’s pretty good.

    Just as a returner please.

Not sure why people consider him a liability on defense. Yes he got burnt but honestly who on the defense didn’t get burnt in the second half of the season when the pass rush was non existent. The guy had career numbers in the int category and if his fingers were 1/8 of an inch longer would’ve taken it to the house against Manning in the first game against the broncos

He just doesn’t have the “IT” factor that we need to turn the secondary around. He is a serviceable backup but he isn’t a starter

I want Demps and Abdullah back. Lewis can go.

    • Chris Tarrants

Lewis can go? He should be picked up and thrown the fudge out of Arrowhead! Preferably from a second or third story window

I say Lewis and Sean Smith can both go… I liked Demps and Abdullah though. Also Marcus Cooper. Keep Marcus Cooper. I feel like he is going to do great things and I want it to be for us, not against us.

I would love to see both Abdullah and Demps back next year !!!

  • Jacob

I liked him. I don’t think I’d mind seeing him back next year.

  • CrispySBC

I agree with Micah … it’s be great to see Demps and Abdullah back …as long as the price is right.

  • Chris Tarrants

I would like to see him back on ST but I don’t want to see him starting at Safety next year. It would be alright to see him as a fill in breather but that’s it.

  • T.Hagen

    Demps is definitely a baller.
