The number nine Christmas bargain for the Chiefs in 2013 is…

DE Mike DeVito for $850,000 (Mar. 12th)

Mike DeVito was signed as the replacement for Glenn Dorsey and it just so happened that Dorsey was signed as a free agent by the San Francisco 49ers the very next day. DeVito has been a pleasant surprise. He came to K.C. following Bob Sutton from the Jets so his familiarity with the system and Sutton helped tremendously. DeVito might be higher on my list but for $850,000 he stays at #9. Along with Tyson Jackson, he and DeVito have had a good year helping to stop the run to the outside. The damage most teams do when running against the Chiefs is up the middle. However, both DeVito and Jackson usually come off the field when it becomes a passing situation.

The number eight Christmas bargain for the Chiefs in 2013 is…

ILB Akeem Jordan for $715,000 (April 15th)

Akeem Jordan has taken one of the Chiefs holes and filled in admirably. Jordan has 54 tackles so far and a couple of forced fumbles and does a good job tying up blockers so Derrick Johnson can do what he does best… fly to the ballcarrier. DJ is having another Pro Bowl year and Jordan should not go unnoticed for helping to make that happen. Though Jordan’s play is average among ILBs his value is excellent for the Chiefs facing a great void left by Jovan Belcher.
