The Kansas City Chiefs have a very talented roster, and no one would argue to the contrary that wide receiver/punt returned Dexter McCluster is about as talented as they come.
While he was not able to suit up for the Oakland game, his return is looking very good when the Indianapolis Colts come to Arrowhead on Sunday.
McCluser took some time yesterday to talk with the media about the injury he sustained against Washington, and about coming back into the game this weekend.
Q: Were you concerned at one point that your ankle infection might be MRSA?
"“I had no idea what that was at first. My mom was calling me and asking me what it was, (and I said) we don’t know what it is. They went in there – and thank God that it wasn’t – it was something that they could get in and get cleaned out and help me get back out there early.”"
Q: What was going through your head when they told you it was an infection?
"“I just thought, wow, something that small, a cut that I get every day in this sport. It’s very serious, I took it very seriously. I wanted to make sure it didn’t move and it didn’t spread, that it didn’t infect my body as a whole. They did a great job going in and finding what it was and giving me the right things to take to move forward.”"
Q: Do you have any idea how you got cut?
"“It was during the (Washington) game on Sunday on the punt return, I felt it when he nipped my leg going into the end zone. But adrenaline took over, it was just a small cut, I took a shower, bandaged it up and kept it moving. Something must have crept in there underneath all of that.”"
Q: It sounds like Dave Toub is excited to get you back out there.
"“I’m excited; it was kind of different for me, sitting at home on Sunday watching the game. I support those guys and they really support me. It’s going to be fun getting back out there.”"
Q: How did you know your ankle was worse than normal after practicing last Wednesday?
"“I practiced and everything; after practice, my ankle was swelling up pretty bad, so I knew something was wrong right away. I let those guys know, they checked it out and here we are.”"
