Alex Smith: "I think we have a really selfless group"

The Kansas City Chiefs’ feel-good story continued with a 23-17 win over the Cleveland Browns.

The 8-0 Chiefs are undoubtedly a talented team, but Kansas City may possess an x-factor that other teams may not be able to game plan for by looking at the film.

That factor is the sense of team this unit has. Here’s Alex Smith after the game:

“I think to be honest the one thing that jumps out at me is the unity within the locker room, offense, defense, special teams, and how encouraging all three sides are for each other,” Smith said. “Guys are playing for each other, it’s really easy to talk about, but at the NFL level, it doesn’t happen often. I think we have a really selfless group, guys that like coming to work, like being around each other, like preparing and like going out there and competing as well,” he said.

“I mean that’s the thing that really jumps out at me. It jumped out at me when I first got here: the type of character of the guys in the locker room.”

Alex is 100% correct. That is exactly the first thing I noticed about this group of guys early on even as far back as OTA’s, and that unity of purpose just continues to build on itself with each subsequent win. That is something that the veterans on this team like Jamaal, DJ, Tamba, and Flowers to name a few have never experienced. There has always been talent on this team, but never this overwhelming sense of unity and they are lovin it. That is why this team remains undefeated because they pick each other up and all are willing to do what ever it takes to win regardless of their personal stats. When you can get an entire to play as a single unit like that then good things will happen.
