2014 NFL Draft: Defensive Tackle Prospects You Should Know

Will Sutton – 6’1 305lbs – Arizona State

Sutton had an extremely impressive year in 2012 and so far this year, has not lived up to the expectations. In 2012, Sutton had 63 tackles, 23.5 tackles for a loss, five passes broken up, 13 sacks, and three forced fumbles. It was these statistics that earned him 2012 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year honors. I find it hard to believe that a player simply forgot how to be successful. There is word that the senior may have put on some “bad weight” and lacks same explosion and quickness that allowed him to be dominate. Sutton will have to learn to excel with the added weight before the year is over if he wants his stock to rise in the draft. So far this year, Sutton has a lackluster 18 tackles, 2.5 for loss, and one sack. Around this same time last year, he had over 34 tackles, ten for a loss, and six sacks. I would expect Sutton to come off the board in the mid to late 2nd round.

Intriguing prospects, and it changes things with Stephen Tuitt staying another year, but it clearly is no longer a need for KC. At this point I say our focus is offense. I expect Nix to be a quality player

    • Jeff Grasser Jr

Did Tuitt say he was staying!? That must’ve been recently…I was hoping he’d come out…he’d be a great late 1st rounder…

  • Merlin_Arrowhead_Addict

I think the Chiefs could draft a NT in the mid-later rounds. Poe should not be playing as many snaps as he has been playing.

    • Jeff Grasser Jr

Lets hope one of these 4 drop to the late 3rd

  • Tony Harris

If one of these guys fall late into the 3rd round then we should pick him up. I expect us to pick up an Offensive Tackle or possibly an OG in the first. I assume we get a Wide Reciever in Free Agency this off season. Reid and Dorsey both love the Free Agent market and asside from the top 3 wide recievers in this draft there isn’t much to choose from. If Mike Evans falls to us that would be perfect.. but I dont believe that happens. There are some quality free agent wide recievers coming up in free agency including Jeremy Maclin (who Reid loves) and Hakeem Nicks.

    • Jeff Grasser Jr

Man, I would loooove for Evans to fall to us…hes a monster

      • Tony Harris

Agreed. HE is going to be a monster in the pros. He reminds me of a bigger Crabtree, plus his footwork and he moves after the catch are terrific.

        • Jeff Grasser Jr

He could elect to stay another year too…although I dont know why he would…I see no bust in him…

          • Tony Harris

Come combine time the draft Guru’s are going to be all over him. His size and speed.. there is no way he decides to stay. I can see him sliding up into the top of round 1.

Johnny football is coming out. No reason for Evans to stay.

      • Merlin_Arrowhead_Addict

I really like Evans as well.

    • Jeff Grasser Jr

I like Cyril Richardson as our pick

  • Danny W

Its nice to look at these guys and actually not need one.

Hey, Jeff, off position topic, but, do you remember your fine article on TEs? One of those top picks was Colt Lyerla from Nike. He appears to be in a downward spiral. FIrst, leaving the team and, now, he has been busted for cocaine possession. There was an article at the Oregonian which mentioned some NFL scout saying he could still be selected, but, he really has become a major head case. Really a waste of natural talent.
