David Yankey – 6’5 311lbs – Stanford

David Yankey started at left guard in 2011 where he was more than servicable. He then moved to left tackle in 2012 after Jonathan Martin was drafted by Miami. Some may think making the move from left guard to left tackle may result in a lack of quality, but you’d be wrong. Yankey made the move to left tackle and excelled beyond anyone’s expectations by allowing only one sack in fourteen starts. But what’s even scarier is that he’s better at left guard, where he’ll reside for this season. He was awarded the 2012 Morris Trophy as the most outstanding offensive lineman in the Pac-12. He may not be at the top of anyone’s draft board like some position players, but that doesn’t make his value any less prominent.

Nice read. While I love stockpiling offensive linemen, I think tackle will be more pressing of a draft need for KC, especially if Albert doesn’t return.

    • Jeff Grasser Jr

I agree…whether or not we retain Albert with defintely affect our draft…If he’s asking for too much money, than we’ll get another tackle…Kind of worries me though because if Fisher doesn’t step up his game, we may not have the most solid of lines next year…If you told me that Fisher was going to be our new left tackle next year and then another freshman right tackle, I’d be a little concerned

      • Rich Cooper

Agreed. Seems Fisher is getting better, but still get pushed around too much for #1 overall. A big step up though so I’d bet he improves as the season goes on.

        • Jeff Grasser Jr

I think he will for sure…i’d just be nervous if he started at LT…he’ll be just fine though, certainly not a bust…just needs time

  • Danny W

I’d take Richardson in a new york second with our second round draft pick…….oh wait we don’t have one. Scratch that idea.

    • Jeff Grasser Jr

I thought we had a 2nd and we didn’t have a third…I could be wrong on that but the mock drafts I’ve seen have us with a 2nd rounder and no 3rd rounder
