Chiefs' Linebacker Justin Houston Named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

The NFL Players of the Week have just been anounced, and the Kansas City Chiefs outside linebacker, Justin Houston won the AFC honors for Week 1.

Houston turned in a monster performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Houston had three sacks and five tackles enroute to the Chiefs’ overwhelming victory agains the Jags. The sack count ties his game high, and he currently co-leads the NFL in sacks. The Jags had no answer for Houston, and he kept rookie right tackle Luke Joeckel, the No. 2 overall draft pick, on his heels the entire game.

Houston looks to continue his QB hunting ways this Sunday when the Dallas Cowboys come into Arrowhead. He had 10 sacks last season, and he’s already gotten a third of that in one game. We’ll see if “America’s Team” has any answer for the Chiefs new sack machine.

    Congrats Houston!

He had a monster game. I think he got a half-sack too much credit though. Catapano should’ve gotten a half sack on one of the three.

    • Jason Seibel

Yeah, I saw that too, Reach! But regardless, he’s a monster that OC’s will have to start gameplanning for. Of course, then what do you do about Hali on the other side and Poe up the middle. I’m loving this defense more and more. Just hope they keep up the intensity against “America’s Team.”

I was just about to type that…lol. If you find a answer for lose the answer for the others!!! #backtoheadscatchn

    • Spencer

I agree kinda, I’d say he deserves 2.75 sacks…Catapano kinda just came in and made sure Gabbert went down…Houston did most of the work there…but hey, it is what it is

    • Michael Shaw

I am sorry, I disagree. Houston got his arms around him and slid down to hold one leg without Catapano. All Catapano did was jump on top of him ensuring he went down. I would say the sack went to whom is should have.

      • Stacy D. Smith

I’ll watch the play again, but I could’ve sworn.

        • RepOurChiefs

If this is the best of our debates all season,”how sacks were split”….I CAN DEAL WITH THAT!!! LOL

          • Stacy D. Smith

It’s not a big deal either way. I just like that the rook is already getting pressure on the quarterback. For a while, I was concerned that he might not make a real contribution in year one.

Houston is getting ready for #millionsofdollars

There we go! Keep it coming defense!!

I love that guy who had the video of 5 Sure Losses or whatever and he said the Chiefs were a lock to lose… I hope he does another video after every prediction he makes ends up being wrong…

Doug Free is going to have a long day!

  • tim

Bust up those Romo ribs !!!!

  • Bosco Cletus

Dude reminds me sooo much of 58, I know that’s saying a lot, but who have we ever had since him that could harass the Qbs like Houston? After his second sack, you just kinda felt he was gonna get another.

    • Jeremy Parkercom

      Jared Allen

      • Bosco Cletus

Sure. I meant from the LB position to clarify.

  • Danny W

I think I stated at the beginning of the year this guy would be really really good like DT good. He’s well on his way.

See my post below from 5 months ago. I predicted he would lead the NFL in sacks this year and Week #1 he already is! 16 games x 3 sacks/game = 48 sacks this year. Just kidding but I will go on record again and say he will challenge for the most sacks in a season at 22.

Fantastic post! I totally agree that this team has maximum potential. Look at the Pro Bowlers, look at Charles amazing year recovering from the ACL with a duct tape line and no passing threat, we have many young players on the rise lead by Justin Houston who will lead the NFL in sacks this year. If the next few decisions go well I would be proud to support the Chiefs to Met Life plan. WE – the fans are a critical part of our Chiefs winning at home so let’s fill up Arrowhead and be LOUD & PROUD! Can’t wait for the draft! GO CHIEFS!!

Who ever goes to the game we got to keep the crowd racus . I’m talking in the huddle going crazy !!! . From start to finish

Ok guys got to show love to the boys in blue .He said he was going to do it,” Yost said of Gordon, who also hit a leadoff homer on Sept. 3. “He picks his spots, man. That’s two times in a row he says, ‘I’m going to go up there and ambush [the] first pitch and hit it out.’”
This is awesome we got a real shot I hope this is just Kansas city year!!!!
