Chiefs News And Rumors 9/10

Many people need their coffee to get up and going in the morning. Here at Arrowhead Addict, we understand that for a Chiefs fan, coffee is simply not enough.

Here’s all that’s happening around Chiefs Kingdom this morning.

Welcome to The Morning Fix.

–If you’re looking for the perfect quote that sums up defensive coordinator Bob Sutton’s aggressive strategy, look no further than this take on the defense from linebacker Derrick Johnson, via Vahe Gregorian of The Kansas City Star:

“Our main goal is to show what we have early, meaning this is going to be a long day, to let the offense know that and to keep it going the whole time,” said linebacker Derrick Johnson, who led the Chiefs with seven tackles. “And we did …

“I’m sure that Jacksonville will get it together. Somehow. But today was definitely a long day for them.”

That quote is bound to make fans all around Chiefs Kingdom happy. For the record, Jacksonville didn’t score on offense once last Sunday, and the Chiefs held the Jags to just 178 total yards.
Benjamin Allbright of Bleacher Report gave his thoughts on what the Chiefs need to do to beat the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday:

For the Chiefs to win this game, the offense is going to have to be less conservative.  Dallas’ defensive coordinator, and architect of the famed “Tampa-2″ defense, thrives on taking away the underneath yardage from teams with a creative mix of zone blitzing, forcing quarterbacks to find the soft spot in the zones down the seams and near the sidelines.

–If you’re wondering what Dallas thinks about this weekend’s game, here’s Cowboys’ head coach Jason Garrett on the Chiefs, per Rainer Sabin of

“They’re a good football team. You watch that tape and they’re a good team,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “And obviously Andy Reid is an outstanding football coach. He’s put this program in place up in Kansas City and we have an immense amount of respect for what he’s all about.”

Dallas won its first game of the season, beating the New York Giants 36-31. Tight end Jason Witten notched eight receptions and two touchdowns, so he’ll be a player Kansas City will need to focus on while preparing this week.
