Chiefs News And Rumors 9/3

Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

Many people need their coffee to get up and going in the morning. Here at Arrowhead Addict, we understand that for a Chiefs fan, coffee is simply not enough.

Here’s all that’s happening around Chiefs Kingdom this morning.

Welcome to The Morning Fix.

There’s a ton to get to today. Oh, and remember, you can’t wear white anymore, which is a dumb rule.

–We’ve seen a ton of roster moves and turnover in the past few days, and now that things have settled down, cornerback Dunta Robinson has a message to his new teammates, per Reid Ferrin of KCChiefs.com:

“Stay focused and understand that we do things totally different,” Robinson said. “We’re not here just to play football; we’re here to win football games. We’re not here just to get a check; we’re here to win football games. So, make sure you guys are ready to go help this team win.”

That’s the type of attitude that you want to see from one of the veterans on Kansas City’s defense, and it looks like this new winning mindset is starting to permeate the locker room as a whole.
–Kansas City’s defense looks to be a huge strength this year, and head coach Andy Reid gave his thoughts on the unit, also per Ferrin of KCChiefs.com:

“They’re picking it up and picking it up fairly well,” coach Reid said. “The more they play in it, the more familiar they become and more comfortable they become. I can’t really tell you what degree they’re at right now, but with what he’s dialing up, they seem to be functioning well and handling (it) well. We’ll have to see. We’ll have to measure it against a team that’s giving you their full offense and we’re giving them our full defense and see how that measures up. What’s been thrown at them so far, they’ve handled really well.”

By picking it up, Reid is refereeing to Bob Sutton’s aggressive defensive scheme, which really looked good in the preseason. With a guy like Dontari Poe spearheading it in the middle of the defensive line, this unit has a chance to really cause some trouble for defenses.
Cornerback Sean Smith also talked about the defense, according to Ferrin:

“I don’t think anyone knew what to expect, coming in,” Smith said. “We had so many new pieces coming in, new coaching staff, new scheme, but we’re very pleased with where we’re at now.  We’re not being complacent or anything like that, but we’re doing some good things right now on the defensive side of the ball. Everybody’s flying to the ball; we’re playing fast and we’re making plays, so we have to keep doing it from here and keep getting better.”

–Finally, here’s a piece on Anthony Fasano from Randy Covitz of the Kansas City Star. Covitz, brings up the fact that Fasano is the only tight end on the roster with experience. He’ll play a huge role for KC in 2013.
