More Roster Moves and Moeaki Still a Chief…Kind Of

Roster moves are still shaking up Chiefs Kingdom. While most of the big stuff is already done, there are still a couple of surprises. Nose tackle Jerrel Powe (not to be confused with 2012 first round draft pick Dontari Poe) was just waived by the Chiefs. This from Adam Caplan’s Twitter:

This one surprises me a little as he initially received praise from defensive coordinator Bob Sutton and head coach Andy Reid. They even went so far as to refer to him and Dontari Poe as the “Po(w)e Brothers.”

The big cut that came late this afternoon, was early fan favorite safety Bradley McDougald.

This is just more of Dorsey moving around the bottom of the roster.

The Chiefs also added a couple of new names during this afternoon’s activities.

I’m sure this guy was on Dorsey’s radar before the final preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. The Chiefs also claimed a couple of former Seattle Seahawks and a former Cleveland Browns as well.

Finally, we learned that injured Chiefs tight end, Tony Moeaki, will remain a Kansas City Chief, of sorts for the time being. Because he is injured, and then waived, and not claimed on waivers, he goes on the injured reserve list.

This is ironic because it’s what I thought the Chiefs should have done with him in the first place, but what do I know?

There it is, Addicts. Your afternoon roster movement. Whether you like it or hate it, we’d like to know what you think in the comments below. Thanks for reading and Go Chiefs!

Would someone please give me a list of new roster mates and what they play and what upside any have…..please? I am lost.

    • Jason Seibel

      Stay tuned buddy!

    • berttheclock

What do you mean? Did your GPS go out?
I’m frantically trying to Google some of these names. One thing with Watkins is I hope Poe can take him under his wing and help him keep his weight down. He is a load, but, had two separate problems with the Rams in making weight.

      • Chris Tarrants

Keep his weight in check? He’ll no feed that boy some BBQ, cornbread, sweet tea, and cherry cobbler! I want to see us with a big ass Gilbert Brown clone with a biiiiig ol’ Arrowhead on his helmet! That would be awesome

        • Chris Tarrants

And just to get into people’s head we can use him on goal to go as a Bettis type fullback to punch it in!

    • ladner morse

tm1946… Lyle Graversen will be outlining who’s new and what those newby’s can do….. tomorrow morning.

      • Merlin_Arrowhead_Addict

Poor Lyle, Dorsey must be driving him crazy!

        • ladner morse

          lol……………….

  • Stacy D. Smith

Sucks for McDougald. The kid was just tweeting about how awesome it was to make the team. You should probably save your roster spot celebrations for about a week after cuts are announced.

    • Merlin_Arrowhead_Addict

I look for him to end up on the PS

      • ladner morse

        I’m hoping for that.

    • Chiefswatch

And keep Abdullah? What the hell is that about?

      • Stacy D. Smith

Abdullah has more NFL experience and brings more to the table right now.

        • Chiefswatch

Abdullah will be another Stanford Route

          • Stacy D. Smith

Not at all. Routt was signed to be a starter. Abdullah’s just another guy to help improve the overall talent at Safety. Lewis and Berry are your starting tandem at safety.

      • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

Yeah Abdullah is the starting Nickel. The Chiefs really like him.

  • berttheclock

Good work, but, as to the IR of Moeaki, is it the one where he could be activated after so many games, this season, or would it be the full year. Funny thing is before his injury, I thought they might try that “Hide the Player in IR” trick with Harris.
BTW, Stacy, that old Belichik and Pete Carroll of “Rent, don’t buy” appears to be applicable for the Chiefs at the moment.

  • berttheclock

If this continues, does it mean the Chiefs will call off training camp next year and just wait until cut down day to put together a roster? Would save a ton of money, eh?

    • chiefridgy

      That kinda makes sense

    • ArrowFan

I find if very logical to pick up guys from other camps. In fact that is what the preseason is all about.

      • berttheclock

I was kidding, ArrowFan. Of course, it is wise to pick up talent from other cuts and Dorsey has been in the best seat in the NFL with 1st dibs on them. I, simply, did not expect the Chiefs to keep cutting so many and bringing in so many new faces. But, look at the Jags. They had second dibs and they picked up 7 new players.

  • berttheclock

So, you want to try and figure out to beat an opponent? Well, the Jags signed Stanzi and Green Bay has just signed Scott Tolzien, the former Badger and 49er practice squad backup QB, to their practice squad after the Niners cut him.

    • Chris Tarrants

Yeah but good luck getting anything out of stanzi! What? Um idk but look at my hair ain’t it dapper?

  • Troy Utt

Someone HELP! As I’m not seeing the value in return for these roster swaps??? Kinda thought we would make some moves to bolster the OL & maybe the receiving corp…But some of these are head-scratcher’s at best!

    • Chris Tarrants

Exactly, surely they have something up their sleeve because so far I give the last 24 hours d- grade

      • Troy Utt

I have been pouring over the cuts & wires myself, trying to keep up & see who had become avail. that might possibly be that missing peice, but for the most part this almost appears to be a contiunce of training camp-rolling the bottom of the roster!
I believe if dead set at picking up another receiver I would have either looked to a Vet FA or Harper who was cut by Seattle. I don’t know, I’m still not over the release of Hartman yet! The kid really stood out all pre-season with interceptions, blocked kicks / punts, just a S/T but that looks to be a hi-lite this year. I guess the surprises w/ R&D are not over yet!

        • berttheclock

Harper has been added to the practice squad of the Seahawks, but, yes, KC did pass him up in claims.

          • Troy Utt

I noticed this morning that SEA added him to their PS… They must either really feel they are stacked at the WR position or he must be WAY behind the eight-ball for them to have done that with a 4th rd pick?

  • Danny W

Kinda bummed Poe is gone. I don’t know if he couldn’t have been better than Tyson Jackson or not. I would say it would have been awful close.

    • Chiefswatch

I always liked Powe, really what the fuck.

    • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

      You mean Powe.

  • Kyle ferguson

Wow, is anyone safe on the bottom half of the roster? At first I thought this was a good thing but I’m starting to get a little skeptical, these guys have a week to get to KC and get ready to head to Florida to play a game. Doesn’t seam like a lot of time to get all these guys on the same page. Anyone know where we are as far as spots left open seams like we cut more than signed today

    • berttheclock

However, consider the Jags picked up seven off of claims. They took D J Williams, the TE from GB of whom Dorsey had been involved with developing (drops too many passes, so, Dorsey passed this time).

  • Montez K.

I did my own research on each of these guys and I must say–each of these guys brings their own upside to the table..I went into this thinking “oh man what are we doing”—but ended up saying ” oh s*** this Dorsey guy may just be a mad scientist!”

    TE Sean McGrath (Seattle)

Found very little information on him…but it’s safe to say there is just as much information as one could find on his replacement in Kevin Brock.

I did find this though— http://www.seahawks.com/videos-photos/videos/Sean-McGrath-Catches-Touchdown/57f6c70c-21fa-47f4-8d16-4ff70fdbc8c5

    DT Jaye Howard (Seattle)

    2012 4th round selection

This guy seems like a bit of a project, with pretty good upside should his work ethic change. Big guy with the second fastest 40 time among D linemen in the 2012 draft…not bad.

Here is his draft profile from last year:

    CB Ron Parker (Seattle)

Not much info on this guy either–just know that he has bounced around and been on some practice squads…he seems to have had some issues with his hamstring. Warning: He has been a Raider at some point in time. Don’t wan’t that “black plague” contaminating our locker room! (Seriously, have you seen the Faiders? They are terrible–definitely a band that needs to break up.)

    LB James-Michael Johnson (Cleveland)

    4th round 2012 selection

This guy may turn out to be the biggest steal. He was started in 8 of 10 games in which he was active in his rookie year…put up decent stats, but with the regime change–he didn’t seem to “fit” their scheme. Could definitely be worth taking a risk on at this point…This may ease the pain of losing one Edgar Jones.

Sidenote: For some odd reason he looks like Terrell Suggs to me, let’s hope that he also plays like him.

    Check this out:

    http://www.dawgsbynature.com/2013/9/1/4683290/chiefs-claim-former-browns-lb-james-michael-johnson

    LB Dezman Moses (Packers)

My boss is a huge Packer fan and all year last year he ranted and raved about this guy…I’m going to enjoy seeing his face on Tuesday. I think he will be solid, started for the Packers and starting experience with any NFL team is great. Clearly the Dorsey connection here.

    Check this out– http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiBgEsbJxhQ

    CB Marcus Cooper (49ers)

    2013 7th round selection

This guy has tremendous upside in my opinion…6’2, 4.3 speed…physical. Could learn from Sean Smith…Keep in mind he was drafted THIS year on a team so deep in corners that Asomugha is third or fourth string. I believe this guy would make it on another team easy…he is a physical specimen who with the right amount of coaching, could make a difference in our reserves or special teams…I think I like this pick up the most.

Check out the breakdown from our good friends at Niners Nation: (We love 49ers)

Check out the athleticism and playmaking! — >>

    WR Chad Hall (49ers)

UFA in 2010 after going undrafted in 2008.

The reason why Devon Wylie is gone. He played for Reid in Philadelphia before so maybe he sees something in him…I mean, the 49ers thought enough of him to activate him at one point and I looked over his college tape, dude definitely has some wheels…he is just so small. We shall see how Reid and Dorsey plan to use their new toy. In the meantime, check it out:

Awesome comment and contribution to the community. Thank for this!

  • Chiefswatch

The Moeki thing is kind of weird. The Powe release was about the only shit move I can think the Chiefs have done so far this offseason, that guy is more than an adequate backup. All these crazy names, idk but to be honest after what I have seen so far I have a lot of trust in Dorsey and company.
