Chiefs News And Rumors 9/1

Many people need their coffee to get up and going in the morning. Here at Arrowhead Addict, we understand that for a Chiefs fan, coffee is simply not enough.

Here’s all that’s happening around Chiefs Kingdom this morning.

Welcome to The Morning Fix.

Well, Addicts, it’s the first day of September, which means it’s officially football season.

The Chiefs will head to Jacksonville a week from today to play the Jaguars, and the 2013 regular season will be officially under way.

According to Randy Covitz of the Kansas City Star, head coach Andy Reid was trying to work on the passing game this preseason, and he expects to become more balanced now that the season is here:

“I was trying to get the passing game going,” Reid said during a Friday teleconference. “This team has run the ball well in the past, and it hasn’t necessarily thrown the ball quite as well as I thought needed to be done, so I wanted to really get that taken care of the best we could and get enough reps at that before we get into the season.

“Then you get into the season, and you keep the blend going, and you mix and match, and I think it will be okay. I thought we were average (rushing the football) during the preseason games, but I think we’ll be all right, when it’s all said and done.

“We’ve got a good runner there (in Jamaal Charles), and he’s had a lot of yards, and he’s done it mostly behind this offensive line.”

Randy Covitz also tells us what we can expect in regard to the practice squad:

After players clear waivers, the Chiefs can sign eight rookies/first-year players to the practice squad, and some of those who were cut, such as Wilson, Opurum and Richardson, could be brought back for that unit.

We should know more about the practice squad soon.

Finally, also from Kovitz, here’s a detailed breakdown of the 52 man roster (Kansas City has room to add one more).

We’ll have more on the practice squad as that news becomes available.
