Many people need their coffee to get up and going in the morning. Here at Arrowhead Addict, we understand that for a Chiefs fan, coffee is simply not enough.
Here’s all that’s happening around Chiefs Kingdom this morning.
Welcome to The Morning Fix.
Addicts, it’s time to start thinking about the regular season. The preseason felt about four weeks to long, but for the Chiefs it was a great time of evaluation and execution. We saw Kansas City do good things, and we the Chiefs struggle at times.
Ultimately though, we saw the team improve, and that’s what you’re looking for in the preseason.
Kansas City improved enough, in fact, that head coach Andy Reid didn’t even play the starters last night against Green Bay. Here are his thoughts on that, per the press conference transcript on KCChiefs.com:
“Do we need to continue to improve? Absolutely. But I was comfortable enough to [take a chance] to look at our depth. I’m pretty comfortable with our first unit and where we’re at. But in this league you need depth, and I want to make sure I’m picking the right guys there and giving them an opportunity to show what they can do.”
Without Alex Smith in the game, both Chase Daniel and Tyler Bray had an opportunity to step up. Bray, in particular, was impressive, completing 14-of-25 for 169 yards and three touchdowns. He did throw one interception, but overall Bray had a good night. Coach Reid’s thoughts on the two backup quarterbacks?
“They both did some good things. Obviously, Tyler had more opportunities and took advantage of those. I’m still very comfortable with Chase being number two. Tyler did a nice job for a young guy stepping in and for most of a series put us in a scoring position, whether it was a field goal or a touchdown. He was one of the guys I wanted to get [significant playing time]. I really just wanted Chase to play a quarter, but he played an extra series in there. Really, I just needed to see a quarter of him and I wanted to give Tyler the rest.”
Finally, here’s a quote from Eric Berry on his goals for the 2013 season, via Chiefs Communications:
Just get to the playoffs, and take it from there. I want to do anything that will help my team get there, so I’m definitely working every day, every week. I just want to see us to do well, so I’m going to keep working towards that.”
