Many people need their coffee to get up and going in the morning. Here at Arrowhead Addict, we understand that for a Chiefs fan, coffee is simply not enough.

Here’s all that’s happening around Chiefs Kingdom this morning.

Welcome to The Morning Fix.

Hey, here’s something awesome to think about. Three Sundays from now, the Chiefs will be squaring off with the Jacksonville Jaguars in game one of the 2013 regular season. We’re only two weeks into the preseason, but who’s ready for some football that actually means something on the win-loss record?
I know I am, and I’m sure many of you addicts are with me.
The Chiefs have done some good things in the past few weeks, but there have been some struggles as well. Let’s focus on the positive this morning. Special teams have been a huge part of the Chiefs’ preseason success. The unit truly looks like it will be able to change games for Kansas City in 2013.
Coach Andy Reid had this to say about special teams coach David Toub and his unit, per Reid Ferrin of KCChiefs.com:
“They are putting guys in the right position to make plays and the guys are making the plays,” coach Reid said. “They’ve got good schemes. Dave is a good teacher, a great teacher. He keeps it where the guys can play fast and efficient. You need to know your players and make sure you’re putting them in situations where they can be successful.”

Safety Quintin Demps was a special teams star against the 49ers, taking back a kickoff for 104 yards and six points. He also credits the coaching, according to Ferrin:

“It’s huge, our coaching is tremendous,” Demps added. “We owe it to them. We have to continue to play harder for them. We need to play smarter – we have some penalties we want to take back, but we have to come back ready for Pittsburgh.”

One of the themes for the Chiefs this preseason has been improvement. As mentioned above, Kansas City has done some things well, but there are still facets of the game the Chiefs need to improve on heading into the regular season. Coach Reid’s thoughts on the 49ers game are below, per another report from Ferrin of KCChiefscom:

“The good things I thought our defense for the most part did a nice job. You’ve got to eliminate quarterback scrambles, and you’ve got a pretty good day there. Offensively, we’ve got to go back and have to be able to throw the football in this league and we’ve got to do a little better of a job protection up front and we’ll do that. They gave us a lot of different looks, so that will help us down the road. We don’t do very much game plan for this, so we get all of the different blitz looks and some of them are new ones and it’s our first time seeing them. You have to handle it and pick them up and things go a little smoother. There are a bunch of things we can learn from it. I thought that special teams did a great job. I thought (Quintin) Demps was good. Knile Davis, I thought, on the offensive side, was a positive. And again, I thought the defensive end as a unit did a nice job.”

Week No. 3 of the preseason is going to be huge for the Chiefs, both on the practice field and on the game field. Kansas City travels to Pittsburg to play the Steelers on Thursday night.
