The Kansas City Chiefs have apparently agreed to terms with free agent guard Rokevious Watkins, according to a tweet sent out by is agent.

From Twitter:

And according to Speck, Watkins is safety Eric Berry’s best friend from childhood.

Watkins is 24 years old and was drafted in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams.He played his college ball at South Carolina.

Watkins was cut by the Rams last week. Pro Football Talk has the story:

"The Rams waived the 24-year-old Watkins last week. Per the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Watkins was overweight upon reporting to training camp.A second-year pro from South Carolina, Watkins — who’s listed at 6-foot-3 and 338 pounds on NFL.com — figures to contend for a reserve role with Kansas City. An ankle injury cut short his rookie campaign in St. Louis.Watkins will miss the first game of the 2013 season for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, the league announced in May."

Yikes. None of that is good.

The Chiefs are always trying to add competition to their roster but Watkins seems to be a little bit of a reach here. He missed his rookie season, reported to camp over weight and has been suspended for a game game for violating the substance abuse policy. He sure doesn’t seem like a young man that is intent on working hard to succeed in the NFL.

As I was tying this up, the Chiefs confirmed the move:

"KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has signed offensive lineman Rokevious Watkins. Additionally, the team has waived tackle Mike Tepper.Watkins (6-3, 338) played in one contest his rookie season in 2012 with the St. Louis Rams. He originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round selection (150th overall) of the Rams in the 2012 NFL Draft. Watkins played collegiately at South Carolina where he was an All-SEC selection. The Fairburn, Ga., native prepped at Creekside High School, the same high school as Chiefs Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry."

What do you think, Addicts? Are the Chiefs hoping Watkins can turn things around or is he just another camp body?
