Chiefs News And Rumors 6/16

Charles is coming off a 1500 yard season which included two games of 200 plus yards and an average yards per carry of 5.3. The Chiefs didn’t have an offense last year except for Charles.

People, outside of the Chiefs fan base, seem to forget that this man was coming off an ACL surgery from the previous season. Had Vikings running back Adrian Peterson not come back and do what he did, (NFL MVP and 2.000 yards rushing) or quarterback Peyton Manning having a strong year, then Charles had a serious case for Comeback Player of the Year. Charles, much like Peterson, almost seemed to look stronger than before the knee injury and was truly dynamic last season.

Charles should definitely make this list and I believe he does deserve to be in the top 20 players in the NFL right now. I can’t predict exactly where Charles will land but him making the top 20 is certainly honorable. What say the rest of the KC Kingdom? Does Charles Deserve top 20 honors? Will he be snubbed?

We’re so sorry, Branden Albert.

It’s been an offseason of speculation regarding the former first-round draft choice (2008). Would he sign his franchise tender or wouldn’t he? Will he be traded to the Miami Dolphins or wont’ he?

Now Albert is back in the fold as the starting left tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs. Of course, the team made tackle Eric Fisher the first overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft. The former Central Michigan standout will open on the right side this season.

Bleacher Report

Jackson’s father, Bill, who died at age 64 in 2009, was a Pittsburgh native who loved football and wanted his sons to play in the NFL. Byron Jackson was a practice-squad player on the Kansas City Chiefs before becoming a filmmaker.

DeSean did not realize the gravity of what his brother was shooting until he was in high school.

There’s footage of DeSean’s speed as a child, running past every youth player amid proclamations even before puberty that DeSean would be a star.

The film shows DeSean visiting the Kansas City Chiefs while still in high school, even lining up to catch passes with NFL receivers. He met Dick Vermeil and received advice from a Chiefs scout.

The team that jumps out as a possible surprise this year is the Kansas City Chiefs. They have a new quarterback and a new head coach heading into this season. Kansas City has been plagued with inconsistent quarterback play for the last several seasons, and it has been the main reason this team has struggled lately. They added Alex Smith in a trade with San Francisco. Smith should provide the Chiefs with a much steadier hand under center, which should help to open up the running game with a more consistent passing attack.

The Chiefs’ running game is among one of the best in the league. It finished fifth in yards per game in the NFL with nearly 150 yards per game. A lot of this is due to their star running back Jamaal Charles, who finished the year with 1,745 total yards from scrimmage with 1,509 yards coming from the ground. Charles is a dynamic athlete and is threat to score from any position on the field.

The addition of Andy Reid and Smith should see Charles be used in the passing and screen games more often to get him touches out in space. If Charles is healthy again this year, then he should again make the Chiefs one of the top rushing offenses again.
