Report: Chiefs Offer Mini-Camp Invite to Dayne Crist

The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly extended a mini-camp invite to UFA Dayne Crist, a quarterback from the Kansas University Jayhawks.

It appears if the Chiefs have finally found their rookie quarterback. It took all seven rounds of the draft and then some, but Dayne Crist is the first quarterback in this class who head coach, Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey will even talk about.

The news of the mini-camp invite came from Brian Hamilton of the Chicago Tribune’s Twitter feed.

While Crist doesn’t have overwhelming stats, he is a quarterback who will be a camp body (should he get an invitation to camp following the mini-camp) who can compete with incumbent third stringers Ricky Stanzi and Alex Tanney. Teams don’t generally keep four quarterbacks on the roster once the regular season begins, so I would assume there will be fierce competition for that third spot.

The fact that Reid and Dorsey did not address the quarterback position beyond Alex Smith and Chase Daniel until now has many Chiefs fans believing they are satisfied that either Stanzi or Tanney will fill that final roster spot. I guess, if nothing else, Crist adds a little intrigue into that storyline going forward.

What do you think, Addicts? Is Crist the franchise quarterback we’ve been waiting for?

This scares me, it feels like Pioli all over again.Andy Reid has such a man crush on Alex Smith that I bet we don’t bring in any real qbs who could contend for the starting spot just like Cassel! Why did we have to stick with Cassel? Because they refused to sign any legitimate threat! I hope Alex shines but if he sinks will Reid pull the plug or go down with the ship?

A lot of so called experts seem to think Daniel was a good pickup for #2 QB, and given the $ KC threw at him, Reid thinks so, too. At a minimum, Daniel is a legit NFL backup; hell, if he can backup Brees…

I might have to take that back, they just changed the initial report of Bray to Miami to Bray signing with KC! Love that pick up, not sure how that got messed up but if it had to happen I’m glad it happed to the fins

The rumor is, the Chiefs offered a bigger signing bonus and stole him away from Miami.

Just saw on ESPN’s website that kC signed Tenn’s QB, who was supposed to have been draftable in later rounds. Crist doesn’t make the team but perhaps takes Stanzi or Tanney’s spot as the 4th QB in camp.
