The Kansas City Chiefs selected ILB Nico Johnson with the 99th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

While Johnson certainly fills a need, the reaction was mixed among Chiefs fans.

"ladner morse Here’s what I wrote about Nico Johnson back in January:“Johnson goes 6-1, 245 and for some reason keeps his pads too upright and allows blockers to get their pads lower than his, into his chest and chop block his legs any time they choose. He’s not much of a “bender.” However, Andy Reid is a good teacher and Nico Johnson has all the physical tools so, in the meantime, he’d make a great special teams player.”His biggest season for tackles was this past senior season with 55. If anyone thinks he’s going to be able to be a big run-stopper on 1st and 2nd down, think again. With all the other excellent choices available…. I think selecting Nico Johnson at this point is a mistake."

"Merlin_Arrowhead_AddictHere is my comment on Johnson for DraftTek: With the death of Jovan Belcher, the Chiefs were looking for a two down, thumper-type Inside Linebacker. Johnson is limited in pass coverage, but is a physical linebacker who tackles well and takes on blockers. It’s a limited role, but good value in Round 4. Grade B"

"Jordan Pollock Nico Johnson will start opposite of DJ and will be taken out on passing downs for Akeem Jordan. With what was left on the board I feel like this is a great pick. He is a thumper and a winner. Coached extremely well and is an intelligent person."
