Chiefs Sign LB Akeem Jordan

Aaron Wilson (@RavensInsider) has reported that the Kansas City Chiefs have signed former Eagles linebacker Akeem Jordan.

From Wilson:

The Chiefs’ new linebacker visited with the team on Friday.

In 2012, Jordan was an outside linebacker in Philadelphia’s 4-3 scheme. He wasn’t well suited for the role and earned a -1.7 grade from Pro Football Focus. He’ll most likely be moved inside in Kansas City and should get a look for the vacancy next to Derrick Johnson. In addition to another recent linebacker signing, the Chiefs now have excellent depth at that position. It’s quite possible that they may have even found a replacement for the late Jovan Belcher.

Ladies and gentlemen….Akeem chocolate, this plays so well. Dont you agree?!!!!

These guys are also special teams guys. I imagine that Reid/Toub are trying to revamp our special teams. I still think that it’s possible Dion Jordan comes in and fills in the ILB role in some capacity. Although I see him primarily as an OLB, he can shoot the gaps and is great in coverage. I could also see him on nickle packages as well. Anyways, just saying, I think we may have more. However, I still think were are taking an OT at #1 until new news comes out.

Also, notice these guys are hybrid 3-4 and 4-3 guys. These guys can be used in different packages. These guys can play on ST and 2 dif defensive schemes. Can be more than just depth.

    Greetings and Salutations, indeed!

Love this is signing. This may be a guy that is ready to start. He’s been fairly productive. KC has him on a cheap one-year “prove it” contract.

I like the signing. Jordan was out of position last year. He should be playing inside (which I assume he’ll do here). As long as this doesn’t keep them from taking a Jon Bostic or Kiko Alonso, I’m fine with it.

I don’t remember signings like this with the previous GM’s of the last 20 years. Is it me, or was it always sort of signing free agents based on potential; trying to get lucky. It seems now that there have been a number of solid contributors signed. Maybe their upside isn’t sky-high, but their downside isn’t in the basement either. I have to say I like the approach.

You could’ve said the same thing about last year when we picked up Winston, Routt, and Hillis, but we know how that turned out. As great as these signings might seem now we should remain cautiously optimistic. It is exciting though.

The difference is you just mentioned last year top FA, in comparison to this years bottom FA.

  • Merlin_Arrowhead_Addict

Sweep out the bottom of the roster old Pats/Browns and bring in Eagles/Pack to fill out the bottom of the roster. Most of these signings will not amount to much.

So who is filling the whole of siller and beltere. Dude, just because you have bodies doesn’t mean you have filled any wholes or found a replacement. Maybe in the draft we can find someone to do the job. But then again we had the chance last year, but we passed. Too bad.

    • Stacy D. Smith

Jordan’s talented enough that he’ll be in the mix for a starting job. Don’t undersell him, he’s played some good football in the past. This definitely adds depth, if nothing else. We lost two key LB’s this offseason.

      • KCMikeG

If we draft Dion Jordan then we would have a trio of DJ’s.

        • Stacy D. Smith

I think it’s more likely that Jordan plays outside.

    • Chief Hokie

ILB was not a major need in last year’s draft when we still had Belcher.

Something tells me we’re gonna draft Sheldon Richardson……no real insight, just a hunch. If we go defense, I’d much prefer Ansah or Jordon however…

    • kmon

Richardson is not a top ten guy

  • ArrowFan

This years camp is going to be a good one:)

Really happy with the linebacker signings, I love it. KEEP ADDING DEPTH.
