2013 NFL Mock Draft: Chiefs Snag Joeckel, Jaguars Take Geno Smith

The latest 2013 NFL Mock Draft is out at FanSided.com.

I am sorry to report that the Kansas City Chiefs have once again selected LT Luke Joeckel. I am not sorry because I think Joeckel is a bad player or even that bad of a pick. I’m just sorry the pick is so boring.

1. Kansas City Chiefs – Luke Joeckel, Offensive Tackle, Texas A&M
Despite some rumbling that Eric Fisher could be overtaking Joeckel as the top offensive tackle in the draft, Joeckel seems poised to become the No. 1 overall pick.

Alas, KC’s pick is not the only one in this mock and that is why I wanted to bring it to your attention. There are a slew of other interesting selections this time around, including QB Geno Smith going No. 2 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

I am not trying to kick up the very tired “is Geno Smith the guy for KC debate” here but can you imagine how crushing it will be down the line if this scenario plays out and Geno Smith turns out to be a franchise QB?

The Raiders get DT Sharrif Floyd in this mock and I don’t like that at all because I think Floyd is going to be a dang good player.

As for the Dolts, they snag OLB Barkevious Mingo. The Chiefs have looked at Mingo quite closely this offseason. I don’t know if they’d consider taking him at No. 1, though. They may be looking at him as an option if they can move back. Still, I have a hunch Andy Reid wouldn’t want Mingo in San Diego.

Lastly, the Donkeys take DE Tank Carradine. If that happens, we can only hope that taking a guy named “Tank” works out just as well for the Broncos as it did for the Chiefs a few years back.

I’d be amazed if the first two picks didn’t pan out like this. There’s definitely a little wiggle room, but given what the Chiefs have already done at quarterback and their history in the draft, Joeckels pretty much a lock I figure. And I like Geno Smith to the Jaguars. In Kansas City red or not, I still like the guy and think he’s highly underrated. Besides, I’d rather the Raiders draft Floyd than Geno, if he is a franchise player, I’d hate for him to start his career in a black hole.

I could see KC going for a pass rusher. If they can snag a guy that can make the kind of impact of say, a Von Miller, I think that would be a better move than getting a tackle. Sure, they’d have to find a way to get the three pass rushers on the field at the same time but Hali has played end before so you could workout it out somehow.

Been saying that all along. Still prefer Geno but Jordan is my close second.

I think it’s aaaaall about Milliner. Having a weak corner opposite of Flowers is killing our team. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like he’s in the running much anymore, but definitely not someone to rule out. Who knows though, My names not Andy Reid or John Dorsey so, guess I’ll just have to wait and see. Honestly though I think they’re all great players, tackles are just soooo boring haha

I know that CB opposite Flowers hurt us last year, but one would hope that Sean Smith who was a Dolphins second rd pick could fill that spot nicely. Maybe Emmitt Thomas makes this guy a stud.

Dion Jordan would be a terrific pick, assuming that he will fit some of Bob Sutton’s schemes. I see him as rotating with Hali and Houston, but I’m not sure that he can play inside in any 3-4 effectively.

Man I hope you’re right, not that I think Joeckel or Winston would be bad choices, but at this point I just don’t wanna draft another linemen.

Why don’t we try to trade hali since he’s on the verge of a decline? we get our picks back, we keep albert and take dion

Becus instead of paying a older Tamba 15 mill this yr and prolly more next yr, teams can just draft a DE/OLB.

    • Chief Hokie

Cutting Hali would certainly save cap room to sign Albert. I think we could get a first for Hali. His numbers have slightly declined but you’ve got to consider fact that teams ran against us more than any other team last season and Hali’s a pass rusher, so naturally there were less opportunities for him to rack up sacks. I would be okay with trading him but only for a first round pick.

Either way, I expect our Line will be one of the best in the NFL. I understand that we still have Brandon Albert under contract, but would it be so bad that we draft one of those beast tackles if we can’t find any trade partners!? I don’t think it would, just move Joeckel ,Fisher, or Johnson at Right for the mean time and heck who knows, they might excel more at RT than Left, I mean we did draft Albert to play LT when he was use to playing Guard his whole college stint and look how he turned out at LT. Just saying…

Im not suprised to see GENO go at 2. Of corse Jacksonville will throw it out there that GENO aint worth takin #1. But alot of teams picking 2-10 will take him.
