2013 NFL Draft: Chiefs Working Out Lane Johnson, Too

Minutes ago we told you the Chiefs were heading down to Texas A&M to work out Luke Joeckel, Damontre Moore and Sean Porter and now we can report that KC will also work out Oklahoma LT, Lane Johnson today.

From Adam Caplan:

These are visits Reid and Dorsey are going on themselves so they are clearly serious about looking at these players.

Johnson is widely regarded as the third-best OT prospect in this year’s class. Most draft experts have Joeckel No. 1 and Eric Fisher out of Central Michigan at No. 2.

Regardless of whether or not the Chiefs will trade LT Branden Albert, the team definitely needs a replacement for Eric Winston at RT. KC cut Winston, in a surprise move, earlier this offseason.

Here is a bit on Johnson’s strengths from NFL Draft Scout:

STRENGTHS: Johnson looks the part with a large frame and long arms (35″). He has quick feet to mirror and has an effortless kick-slide. Explosive off the snap and sets up quickly, using his extremely wide base to cover a large area. He digs his cleats in the turf and lowers his butt in pass protection with the strong upper body to control defenders.
Johnson does a nice job using his length to keep rushers at bay and uses his physical limbs to eliminate defenders with his nasty attitude. He has large, powerful hands and usually keeps his hands inside. Natural bender with flexible joints, contorting his frame and selling out for blocks. He locks out and seals defenders on the edge, doing a nice job engaging in space to create run lanes.

Has the competitive drive that scouts want for the position and the upside to continue to develop at the position

What do you think, Addicts? Will the Chiefs select Joeckel, Fisher, Johnson or someone else?

Actually we may very well be looking at Lane Johnson. Fox Sports reported today that the Bills worked out Geno in a private workout, but even more telling is they had dinner with him the night before and the GM, Asst GM, HC, and OC were all there. They sure look like they would be interested in trading up with KC because he will probably be gone by the 8th pick. That is probably our best trade partner. At least Geno does not end up in our division. We get the 8th pick plus plus. Johnson could still be there, or Ansah would be a great pick at that spot and keep Albert. Getting more and more interesting every day. Sorry Leno

Could this be the tipping point that we can confidently say we have a trade partner? At least for B.Albert or the 1-1 pick or both? Looks like everything is coming together for that scenario, hope we get plenty of picks. It doesn’t appear that Dorsey and Reid are thinking that B.Albert is a long term solution at LT.

I think we can look at this and say we have multiple options. These guys have a plan and are working it every minute. Wow, can’t wait to see what comes next!

Keep dreaming Leno or …..! Ya gotta love someone that never gives up. Keep the faith!
