The Kansas City Chiefs will introduce former San Francisco 49ers QB Alex Smith to the media today at 5 pm central time.

The Chiefs and 49ers made the trade for Smith official yesterday when the new league year began.

KCChiefs.com announced that the press conference would take place and also posted some quotes from GM John Dorsey, head coach Andy Reid and from Smith himself.

Dorsey:

After many discussions with the 49ers and Alex, we were able to come to an agreement that we felt was mutually beneficial.

Alex wanted to be a member of the Chiefs; we are excited to have him and we think he can help improve this team.

Reid:

Alex is going to fit in well here in Kansas City, and we are excited to have him on board.

We’ve seen him play at a high level and he can be very impressive. We are anxious to get him in the building and get him started learning our system.

Smith:

I am very blessed and thrilled to be joining the Chiefs family.

I’d like to thank the Hunt family, John Dorsey and Coach Reid for giving me the opportunity to play football for such a proud franchise. I know from experience that Chiefs fans are among the greatest in the NFL and I’m really looking forward to Sundays at Arrowhead Stadium.

We’ll have a live thread for Smith’s presser later today.

I wonder if the Chiefs will lock Smith in a room upstairs and make him speak to the media via a speaker phone like Scott Pioli used to do.

Na! Hitler has been kicked out of Arrowhead One Drive!
I think they will let him speak his mind. He is a leader and has already said he wanted to come here. I think Dorsey/Reid will let him be his own man, not a sock puppet like Pioli!
    Good ridden’s Piss-OLE!

Well….no need to keep kicking a dead horse right? Welcome to Kansas City Mr. Smith; I will do my duty as a Chiefs fan faithful to root you on every sunday, thursday and occasional saturday. Show the league why you were drafted Number 1 overall in 2005. We’ll all be paying close attention

Very excited to have Alex taking the reigns. We now have a legit QB, a great GM and a HC that will develop gameplans and develop QB’sbetter than we have seen in awhile. Can’t wait to see if Brees rubbed off on Chase. Still think a developmental QB cld be taken. Would love to snag Manuel 4th rd.

So is this the next Len Dawson that Andy Reid was talking about? I sure hope not.

I dont think the Chiefs have gotten better with the player accusations in regards to free agency. I think at all positions it has played out to be an eye for an eye. I dont think that Smith was a big enough upgrade over Cassel to warrant a 2cnd and a 3rd round pick. I think one of the QB selected in the early 2cnd to third rounds in this years draft (Wilson, Manuel) will end up having a much better career than Alex Smith. Robinson is in no way an upgrade over Arenas. His coverage skills are terrible, and he’s not getting any younger. Arenas still has room to grown and plays the slot pretty well. Dorsey is a top run stuffing DE in the NFL that was downgraded in Devito. Neither of them can rush the passer, but Dorsey is better against the run. Avery is a guy thats 29 and was overshadowed by a rookie in Ty Hilton. Avery has inconsistent hands and has less field vision and quickness than DMC. The only way the Chiefs have gotten better is coaching, but honestly that is yet to be determined with Reid coming of off 2 sub par seasons in Philly. Right now Im looking at a 7-9 ball club at best. Im am a huge Chiefs fan and have been my whole life. I know that every seasons a new year to improve, but as far as I can see the Chiefs are a few wins better than 2012. I just try to keep things in prospective. Jockel #1 overall is a joke as well. You dont draft a #1 LT overall and then plug him in at RT. Even if it is just for a year, and they let Ablert walk in 2014. A LT #1 overalll for the Chiefs will always be viewed as a wash pick which means the Chiefs did not improve with their #1 overall pick. Keep the talent you have and Albert is one of the best LT in the game.
