Alex Smith Says Chiefs Were His First Choice

The Kansas CIty Chiefs introduced Alex Smith as their new starting QB at Arrowhead Stadium on Wednesday.

There were a number of good quotes and highlights from the presser. The best of which was when Andy Reid said that the Chiefs were “gonna get Alex into the Hall of Fame.”

One of the other interesting bits was that Smith insisted that coming to Kansas City was exactly what he wanted.

“I feel like because of what I’ve gone through, you grow as a player, grow as a person,” Smith said. “I’m ready for this. I can’t say how excited I am for it.”

Smith was benched in San Francisco in favor of his backup Colin Kaepernick. What made Smith’s fate particularly gut wrenching was that he wa shaving the best season of his career. Had he not suffered a concussion and had to sit out a week, he might well still be the starting QB of the 49ers.

But once it became clear to Smith that his time in San Fran was over, he turned his attention to potential new teams…and the Kansas City Chiefs.

“There was no doubt in my mind that this is where I wanted to be,” Smith said. “There was no doubt in my mind. I’m glad it got done.

Hopefully Chiefs fans will be glad the trade got done as well. All Smith has to do is win.

Of course it was …… not like he was gonna say ” actually I didnt want to come to the Chiefs, I wanted to go to _______,but oh well” ….. Hope he makes SF regret trading him….

    • Michael Shaw

I would almost bet that he will. As soon as they lose Kaepernick to a leg injury they will miss him.

  • Joe Myers

you know ov course he’s going to have to say that . But in this case I think he did . I think the chiefs are ready to win now I think their going to draft Luke and and make a run at the playoffs . Denver is said to be in the driver seat but im not so sure . E shut out Denver in the first half at arrowhead . Without QB it was a matter of time . Trust me better QB play and the chiefs will be a dangerous team . But im interested in the spec teams this year . In the end its Denver vs the chiefs for the AFC west . I got the chiefs by 2 games . Chiefs 12-4 Denver 10-6 . Think im crazy chiefs have a fairly easy schedule and im sure Denver has a fairly strong sechdule . We will be underrated .

God I hope your right! Time to call my bookie!

Actually, the Chiefs have the hardest schedule of all the teams in the AFC West for 2013. The Bronco’s schedule is the softest in the league.

      • GDL40

Right….. this actually shows Denver has the EASIEST strenght of schedule in the whole league! the whole AFCW is on the bottom 5 so it will come down to who has the better team overall, which is Denver, I’d be ok with 8+ wins and second place in the division, and finally win a playoff game in 2014!

Wow, I like your post here, Kraig…!! You may be onto something, as the Broncs will be heavily favored in the division, but with new regimes in place in KC and SD, it’s possible that we might see a two-team, or even three-team scrum for the division crown. I think it will take Reggie McKenzie another year of digging the Raiders out of salary cap hell before they can begin to move forward.

    • GDL40

As much as I hope you’re right, I dont think so…. Denver keeps getting better in FA and KC is, well , a little better. We NEED MILLINER to have a shot at competing with them and realistically I think we’ll get maybe 8 wins….

Of corse he is gone say this is where he wanted to go all the time. He cant say “I wanted to play for the rival team but got stuck playing for yall instead”
