The Kansas City Chiefs have two new QBs to replace former starters Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn.

The San Francisco 49ers have confirmed that they have traded Alex Smith to the Chiefs for two draft picks. It is believed that since the draft picks KC sent are high that Smith will take over as the starter for the foreseeable future.

But KC didn’t stop there. We heard earlier that new GM John Dorsey was targeting former New Orleans Saints QB Chase Daniel. Then shortly after free agency began, it was reported that the Chiefs and Daniel agreed to a three-year contract.

It looks like the Chiefs are hoping for Daniel to slide into the backup role behind Smith. Cassel is expected to be traded or more likely, released. Ricky Stanzi is still on the roster but the Chiefs haven’t made any indications whether or not they have any plans for the former Iowa Hawkeye.

The arrival of Daniel could call into question whether or not the Chiefs will use any draft picks on a QB in the 2013 NFL Draft. If KC does take a QB, we can probably assume that Stanzi will be on his way out.

Time to get out your red pens, Addicts. We knew the Chiefs needed to completely rebuild their QB depth chart. It looks like Chase Daniel is a part of their plans.

I give the deal a C. I don’t dislike the deal but Daniel is too much of an unknown for me to be terribly excited about him being the team’s backup in 2013. I would like the Chiefs to still draft a QB this year so they have a guy they are developing.
