Chiefs Stole Dunta Robinson From The Denver Broncos

The Kansas City Chiefs made a free agent signing late Friday night when they locked up former Atlanta Falcons CB Dunta Robinson to a three-year contract.

But not only did the Chiefs find themselves a corner that could potentially start opposite CB Brandon Flowers, they also prevented Robinson from lining up opposite Dwayne Bowe.

According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, Robinson met with the Denver Broncos earlier in the day before deciding to sign with the Chiefs.

Haha! Eat it, Denver. Sure, you may have beat the Chiefs out for Peyton Manning but we beat YOU out for Dunta Robinson.

In all seriousness, the fact that the Chiefs were able to beat out another team for a free agent is not something KC fans are accustomed to. The fact that they prevented a division rival from filling a need, at least for now, is doubly impressive.

The Broncos do need hep at corner. Champ Bailey is no spring chicken and he got burned more than once in the playoffs by the Baltimore Ravens.

Looks like the Donkeys will have to keep looking.

Looks like it’s a busy night for you, Patrick. Did you have to buy a second six pack?

Nah I only threw back three Smuttynose IPAs. I made a nice steak dinner for the wife earlier in the evening and had a couple (half a bottle) glasses of wine. Didn’t want to overdo it.

That sounds like a good night.

It sure is nice to finally have someone who seems to know what they are doing I’m still not that stoked about alex smith but with what they have done since I’ve been letting it go

    • Jim Harper

Gee that is nice of you. But yes it is nice to watch them work. Something new every day and not just camp bodies like Pioli would waste money on.

    What a bad article

      Bronco troll alert.

    • KCMikeG

      Wah-wah little donkey.

I’m hoping he works out better than the last FA we “beat out other teams” for Winston. Robinson was the #15 ranked CB by Walter Football. Seriously great against the run but got burned too much. Mike Nolan arrived last year as the new DC and Dunta’s tackles jumped from 55 in 2010, 49 in 2011 to 80 in 2012!

Reid had DJax & Macklin knocked out by Dunta – must have made an impression on him.

Mike Nolan, also, liked to play 3 quality CBs on the field at the same time.

Thanks for the links. Depending on scheme, Dunta could be a great asset. Corners that can tackle well are such a huge asset.

      • KCMikeG

So do you think we will still go after Smith contrary to “league sources”? Or do you think we will draft another CB? Any chance we move Dunta to safety and get a better cover conner in FA?

Haha! Eat it Denver. Sure, you may have beat the Chiefs out for Peyton Manning but we beat YOU out for Dunta Robinson……When I seen that headline I was thinking the same exact joke. We hav the same sense of humor.

Gotta have a little fun with the division rivalries. Especially when you are as bad as the Chiefs. lol

  • Stacy D. Smith

It’ll be even sweeter if and when he picks Manning off.

    • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

      Agreed.

    • KCMikeG

      When, not if.

  • chiefridgy

    Suck it donkeys!

  • tm1946

Forget about the broncos, this stands on its own as a good move, a needed one, and it takes the pressure off the draft for CB.

Seems a lot different around here, guys at Arrowhead seem to have a plan that we can understand, what a difference a few firings make.

  • Bosco Cletus

My only concern here is how poorly the Atlanta secondary played as a whole in the playoffs, not blaming Robinson alone, but giving up two digit leads in back to back weeks. Wilson threw for 385 and two tds. Hopefully his coverage problems can be fixed by the coaching staff.

    • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

Yeah I am proceeding with caution here. He can still play. Sometimes guys have a down season then bounce back. Champ Bailey has been up and down a few different years after 30.

      • Bosco Cletus

Yeah Champ did bounce up and down, and he definitely looked DOWN against Baltimore in the playoffs, I dont think I have ever seen him get outplayed that bad before.

      • KCMikeG

Actually he did bounce back last year. Mike Nolan arrived last year as the new DC and Dunta’s tackles jumped from 55 in 2010, 49 in 2011 to 80 in 2012!

Robinson was the #15 ranked CB by Walter Football. Seriously great against the run but got burned too much. Grimes got hurt and Abraham was their only pass rusher which hurt the secondary.

  • Andy

Looks like we have real football people in charge now. We all may not agree on the “who” we sign, but we can agree we are trying to fix weaknesses and add depth, not just camp bodies. Pat you are right, we are not rebuilding, we are building a team to win now….ok not now, but sooner rather than later.

  • Champ18

Can’t wait till Manning torches your sorry team.. Broncos all day baby

  • TAZMOSIS

A little late with this response, but I would rather have seen the Chiefs wait just a day or two and see if another more qualified CB is more to their liking. I know that Sean Smith did not re-sign with the Dolphins. His asking price may have been prohibitive, but I am not sold on Robinson.

“Haha! Eat it, Denver. Sure, you may have beat the Chiefs out for Peyton Manning but we beat YOU out for Dunta Robinson.”

At least we beat the Donkeys for something…
