Geno Smith Has Met Chiefs, 10 Other Teams At The NFL Combine

The Kansas City Chiefs may not select QB Geno Smith with the No.1 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft but they are certainly going to do their homework on him.

Smith sat down with the NFL Network crew following some of his workouts and answered a number of questions, including which teams he had met with over the weekend.

Smith said he met with 11 teams and then named six of them.

They were:

Ravens, Bengals, Steelers, Chiefs, Bills, Arizona

There are some interesting teams in there. The Ravens, Bengals and Steelers are all set at QB, yet they still talked with Smith. The Chiefs, Bills and Cardinals clearly have needs at the position.

If I had to guess at the rest of the teams that Smith met with, I’d go with Cleveland, Oakland, Jacksonville, Tennessee, New York Jets. But that is just a guess. I mean, if the Steelers and Ravens are talking to Smith, then the QB literally could have talked to any team in the NFL.

Smith is drawing pretty solid reviews from his day at the Combine, however while talking with NFL Network, Smith was humble about his performance.

“I felt like there’s room for improvement,” Smith said. “I started off slow but I feel like I made some good strides today. Was able to exhibit some of my athleticism with the broad jump and the 40 so I feel like overall I did a pretty good job.”

It will be interesting to see if Smith’s stock rises after this weekend. Stay tuned.

lets go Geno . Number 1

Patrick, I just went back to check again, and the first team he named was the Raiders, not the Ravens.

He did much better ths he said he did…I like him even more after today. Chiefs need to pick this guy first overall.

I thought there were 4 or 5 QBs that were better on the press conferences last night than Geno. Hopefully for him he will do better in his 15 minute interview. He didn’t do bad today, but he didn’t do much to separate himself from the rest of the group either. I think he will end up going in 2nd half of 1st round.

It’s the “Flavor-Aid” syndrome Mike. People want the Chiefs to draft the Luck, RG3, Russel Wilson, etc. in the draft because they’ve been starved so long for a DRAFTED QB. If they trade for Foles and he turns out to be a stud, do I care if he was drafted by the Chiefs??? NO….Len Dawson wasn’t drafted by the Chiefs either.

How? What did he do? What? Seriously, tell me.

Does anyone really think he’s going to do anything at the combine that will change the mind of GM’s and Coaches over four years of tape? No. The Chiefs ARE NOT going to select him number one. Fans are being emotional about this because the Chiefs NEED a QB, but sadly, the Chiefs picked the worst year in decades to suck as bad as they did. If your team needed a running back more than any other position, BY FAR, and the best one on the board was around the 15-20th best player, would you want your team to pick him? NO. It just happens to be a QB.

Actually yes he did, he didn’t throw at the Senior Bowl if you don’t remember so none of the teams got to see him throw except on film. All the analyst were talking about how good and impressed they were with him, and even called him the Crown Jewel of the Qb’s, so did you watch the combine?

After the Combine I am willing to bet that Geno will be in the top 10 in almost all mock drafts. If he can go in the top 10 than he can go #1

  • Outback Chief

If the Chiefs sign Alex Smith and draft a Geno or another QB with the 1st that won’t leave much for the rest of the QB desperate teams. That would be a great feeling , I wish the other teams nothing but bad luck.

  • Stacy D. Smith

This kid has done EVERYTHING you could possibly ask for. For the love of all that is holy, take him #1 and let’s roll.

So my line of thinking is this: The Chiefs trade for Smith using a third round pick ( which they will be receiving a 3rd round comp pick anyways – so no real biggie as far as picks go ), trade out of the first overall pick…pick up a couple extra picks in the draft and still bag the QB they want – Geno or Tyler. Oh and of course we release Cassell. any flaws in that thinking?
