2013 NFL Mock Draft: Chiefs Go WR In Round 2

Don McPeak-US Presswire

We’ve examined a number of first round NFL Mock Drafts over the last couple of weeks but why not go a little deeper?

The folks over at Walter Football have posted their updated mock for round two of the draft. They have the Chiefs selecting QB Geno Smith with the first round selection and in round two, they decided to get him a target.

Kansas City Chiefs: Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee

Kansas City’s new quarterback will need a new receiver if Dwayne Bowe leaves. I wouldn’t spend the money on Bowe; he’s overrated because he’s inconsistent and piles up most of his stats in garbage time. He was responsible for a ton of turnovers, including both of Matt Cassel’s interceptions against the Ravens.

While I like the move to go with a WR here, I disagree on the comments about Bowe. Bowe may be inconsistent at times but he has also played with a parade of just terrible QBs. His production since he entered the NFL is impressive considering the Chiefs have been so poor on offense. I’ve no doubt that once Bowe is paired with a competent passer, his numbers will be more consistent.

I am also against pairing a rookie QB with a young, inexperienced WR core. If the pick in round one is indeed Smith, I believe it is essential the Chiefs retain Bowe.

As for the pick, Hunter possesses excellent size at 6-4, 200. He had 73 catches for 1083 and nine TDs in 2012. Most experts see him as a second or third round pick.

Andrew Luck and TY Hilton. I know Geno isnt Andrew Luck but the fact of the matter is it can work if they are coached up. Indy also drafted a rookie TE. I would prefer we go with the WR out of WV to make things a little easier on Geno.

    • Daniel Mayfield

Get Stedman Bailey, he’s been with Geno since high school. They will work good together, along with Bowe.

      • ArrowFan

I like this idea Bailey fits with Ried’s style as well. When Bailey projected?

        • mattU

Bailey could be available at the top of the 3rd…It’d be great if KC could get him there. I think if Barrett Jones is there in the 2nd round, that’s who the Chiefs should go with. The depth on the interior OL is completely non-existent. Jones has shown he can play at a high level all over the OL while at Alabama, and would bring competition to both Hudson and Allen for a starting spot.

I’d love to see the first 2 days of the draft go something like this…
          1. Geno Smith
          2. Barrett Jones
          3. Stedman Bailey
          3b. Jonathan Bostic
          4. Tyrann Mathieu

I love the way that looks. I think I would be jumping up and down. Especially after last years draft. They took Poe and my face immediately went in my hands. Poe isnt looking as bad as I expected but hes not 4th pick good either.

Indy’s primary receiver is Reggie Wayne who is an established veteran.

As far as Bowe goes I say let him walk and bring in Greg Jennings. I dont think that idea is too far fetched considering Dorsey is our new GM.

we need to get geno smith in 1st and tavon austin in 2nd. they have experience with each other and i think it would translate well in the nfl

    • ArrowFan

Austin will be gone before our round two pick. If not then yea grab him.

      • http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.aldridge.73 Jonathan Aldridge

ya if he is taken then we can get stedman bailey

  • http://www.facebook.com/ryan.langsford Ryan Langsford

Trade Bowe for Revis, sign Jennings, draft Geno, then BPA from there. Go Chiefs.

    • Michael Shaw

Um, you do realize Bowe will be a UFA this year right? That means we don’t own him to trade him.

  • Donkeyhater

I agree we must retain Bowe. However, I also like this player and think he would be a good 2nd round pick. He could end up being the best receiver in this draft if he fully recovers from his injury. Could potentially give the Chiefs the best receiving corps they’ve ever had.

  • disqus_vC2y9l2NUX

Tavon Auston would be good in second round I agree but we already have an established much like Tavon in Dexter McCluster. As for a WR in the second I think we need to look at a corner here maybe Jonathan Banks falls.. look at a WR in the 3rd round

  • Kyle ferguson

Gotta go d back with this pick, you have to play manning twice next year you need a guy that can play man opposite flowers to allow our line backers to blitz, also need depth a safety

    • Daniel Mayfield

I can see that in the 2nd round but if you are talking about in the 1st…. sorry but the defense isn’t gonna help the crappy QBs we have. They won’t help put up more 10 or 13 points a game.

    • ArrowFan

When you look at how our D played Manning this year I don’t they had anything to do with loosing to them. At least the first time we played.

  • Chiefswatch

It’s hilarious the opinions these “experts” have on teams they really never pay attention too. Had those jokes over at Walter Football actually followed the Chiefs they would know Bowe was the sole reason Cassel had a job at all. They would know that I cant even begin to count the number of times Bowe has got us a much needed first down by being insanely good breaking tackles, making a catch, whatever. Without Bowe, Pioli would have been fired three years ago. Bowe is one of our only 2 play makers that can be counted on to play more than 8 games a year. No a second round talent out of Tennessee would be a better option? What a joke. Baldwin was supposed to be able to supplant Bowe wasn’t he? I am so sick of talk about replacing what we already have. Fuck could this draft happen already…………..

  • ArrowFan

Tag and trade with Bowe then just make sure to draft Geno.

  • Michael Shaw

If the pack isn’t willing to pay Greg, why should we? I am concerned that a SB contending team won’t pay the guy, but now people are saying we should go after him. I would rather have Mike Wallace. That man is FAST!

  • ladner morse

I’d be surprised if Hunter slipped to the 3rd round but… boy if he does…. sang his rear.
