Chiefs GM On Cassel As Starter: Never Say Never

Kansas City Chiefs G John Dorsey was on the Danny Parkins show on 610 Sports Radio this morning and he did drop one quote that may have Chiefs fans starting to pani.

When asked if there was a possibility that Matt Cassel could return as the team’s starting QB in 2013, Dorsey said:

“Never say never.”

Now before you grab your torches and pitchforks and rustle up a mob to head out to Arrowhead Stadium, I suggest you take a deep breath.

Dorsey had to say that. Matt Cassel is still under contract with the Chiefs and as a decision about what to do at the QB position likely hasn’t been made yet, it would be utterly foolish and irresponsible for Dorsey to go on the record now as saying he is sending Matt Cassel out of town on a rail. Even if that is the case.

The Chiefs may decide that they want to restructure Cassel’s contract and keep him on as a veteran backup. They may try to trade him (good luck). Or they may simply release him outright.

Regardless it would be unwise for Dorsey to show his cards now.

So don’t start panicking yet. There are a lot of decisions that have to be made before we can even start sweating about this.

Man fridge the last four seasons have done some damage to me as a Chief fan. I’ve been through some tough times as a Chiefs fan but in my opinion last year was rock bottom to an organization that was once at the pinnacle of the league with no super bowls in years. Now I see the Chiefs underneath teams like the Browns, Cardinals, Detroit, et al. With only the Raiders under us in class. I know we have a new regime but until Matt Cassel is gone this organization will still be at rock bottom to me. He’s like a scab that just won’t go away. In four seasons his mediocre play has cost us not only games but our ability to move the ball against even the worst teams in a passing league. Matt Cassel is the thorn in my side when it comes to getting pleasure in watching my favorite Sunday recreation. I have tempered my enthusiasm for so long know because of him I can’t seem to find any at all until we get a new signal caller. It literally is just about everything when it comes to football these days. If your signal caller sucks your team thus follows. I have literally no faith in Matt Cassel’s abilities as a quarterback and I’m afraid if he’s our guy this coming year I won’t be around here or another Chiefs site anymore.

I feel you bro….After all the heart ache we’ve had over the years we just want something to cheer for. I don’t see any way cassel makes it back a a starter. He might be a backup (hopefully on another team) but no way he starts another game for this team

  • chiefridgy

    No to cassel……Come On Man!

  • Arrowhead Greg

I would like to see cassel stay on as the back up QB.

  • Kyle ferguson

Maybe he’ll stay around just for comp to push who ever they bring in, he did have a good 2010 season and you never know when a guy is going to go down would you be mad if Matt came in for a game or two if the number one goes down? I’ve also liked Matt as a competitor he may not be the best qb but when he is paying in a system that fits him he can hold his own

Ok, but I am not going to throw my torch and pitchfork away. Just in case!
