Report: Chiefs To Land Special Teams Coach Dave Toub

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Bears special teams coach Dave Toub will leave the team to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs.

From the Sun-Times:

After a long and distinguished run with the Bears, special teams coordinator Dave Toub is expected to make a lateral move to the Kansas City Chiefs, two league sources said.

Toub oversaw special teams for all nine of Lovie Smith’s seasons with the Bears, and he consistently had among the strongest units in the NFL.

Toub is very highly regarded in league circles and some would even go as far as to call him the best special teams coach in the NFL.

This is a huge land for the Chiefs. The Bears have yet to hire a new head coach and while Toub likely would have had a chance to stay on under the new regime, the uncertainty in Chicago may have led to his deciding to bolt for KC. After all, when the league is paying musical chairs, you don’t want to be the one standing when the music stops.

Maybe the man who brought you Devin Hester can get some more excitement out of the KC return game.

All right, Addicts. What do you think of the hire?

Before you answer, remember that Toub is the man who came up with this:

Lucky you! For us younger fans we haven’t seen them at the big dance. I hope to find out what it’s like in my lifetime.

two thumbs up and two toes

  • Stacy D. Smith

Best hire to Reid’s staff thus far. One of the very best special teams coaches in the league. EXCELLENT hire.

      I’m with you Stacy

Yeah knowing our luck this year they’ll eliminate kickoffs…

    • Michael Shaw

No there are too many teams that will vote that one down. The competition committee has to know that kickoffs can change a game around in a hurry, so why would you get rid of something like that.

      • obrien5

        It was a joke. A haha… :-)

Our special team defense has been a joke for a while. I wonder if this guy will insist on keeping Colquitt or will want a Shane Lechler type. It will be interesting to see.

    • Michael Shaw

Colquitt, hands down!!! This year shouldn’t be his first pro bowl, he should already have at least two more!!

Fantastic. This hire and Dorsey are excellent. OC and DC are hard to get excited about.

Too bad he didn’t teach them not to screw up an awesome play with a holding penalty. Maybe we can finally get rid of the useless Arenas as a returner. He never gets past the thirty. I didn’t realize how much I’d miss Dante Hall until Arenas started returning kicks. Wylie did show some promise as both a returner and a receiver toward the end of the season though. I’m pretty excited about him. Kind of reminds me of Wes Welker.

Some of you might be thinking that this doesn’t matter and it’s nothing to be excited about…..just so you know, this IS the best ST coach in the entire NFL. ……well done.

…yeah, guess the article says that too. my bad
