Andy Reid Chiefs Rumors Heating Up

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

It is looking more and more like Andy Reid will be the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

ESPN Insider, Chris Mortenson, the man who brought you the report on Mike Shanahan being the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, says he would be surprised if Reid is not hired.

Mort on Mike and Mike in the Morning, via Pro Football Talk:

“The Chiefs were trying to close a deal with Andy Reid,” Mortensen said. “At this point I’m going to be surprised if Andy Reid is not the Chiefs’ coach. Now, I’ve been surprised before, but there’s a lot of activity there. Some would say, ‘Why Kansas City over Arizona?’ One thing is, in Kansas City, Clark Hunt, the owner of the Chiefs, he’ll let Andy Reid build this thing the way he wants to build it. And if you know Andy, he wants to be able to basically pick the entire organization, set up his personnel. . . . The Chiefs are willing, and Clark Hunt is willing to do that.”

Hunt has said that he wants to make sure the new head coach is comfortable with the situation in Kansas City. That is likely why he has stripped GM Scott Pioli of the power to hire the next head coach. IF Hunt wants Reid and Reid doesn’t want Pioli, then Pioli will likely be out of a job.

There is likely a lot of interest in Reid so don’t start buying yourselves fake mustaches to wear at Arrowhead next season just yet.

Still, even though Mort got the Shanahan report wrong, there was never any nine hour meeting between the Chiefs and the former Broncos head coach.

Hold on to your hats.

Looks promising… But I will remain skeptical if Pioli remains on in ANY capacity. He needs to go!

I don’t want Andy Reid here!!! This is another poor Head Coaching Decision!! like the Romeo Crennel was when most people were on that bandwagon I called that. I do not want Reid here!!! mark my word hunt this is a very poor Head coaching choice.

I’m with you on this. I think Reid’s success with Philly was more of a reflection of the coordinators he had helping him.

Why wouldnt you want Reid? He drafted McNabb and then took them to 5 straight playoffs and one super bowl! Right now we have a chance to draft a QB and let Reid develop him like he did with McNabb. Reid didnt have a jamaal charles or a defensive squad that has been built like ours when he first got to Philly. I think this is an amazing decision. But thats my take.
