ESPN Insider Adam Schefter said today on Mike and Mike in the Morning that he believes Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel will be fired today.

There have been multiple reports that the Chiefs would part with Crennel. I have yet to see a single report that KC is considering retaining Crennel.

As for GM Scott Pioli, the situation appears to be undecided. We’ve seen a few reports that Pioli will be retained. Yesterday Schefter reported that Pioli’s fate was “leaning out.”

I would imagine that if Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt is going to part with Pioli, he will do it at the same time as Crennel. If Crennel is indeed being let go today, we should hear about Pioli’s fate as well.

One interesting thing to consider is whether or not Crennel might stay on the coaching staff as the defensive coordinator. If Pioli is kept, he may want Romeo to stay on board in some capacity. Then again, if a new head coach is being brought in, he will likely want to hire his own staff. It’s a very slim chance that Crennel sticks around as DC but if Pioli is still in charge I don’t think we can rule it out.

Stay tuned. Answers could be coming this morning.
