Welcome to a special edition of The Morning Fix. Last evening, Nick Wright, formerly of 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City, reported that a source has told him that Chiefs GM Scott Pioli and head coach Romeo Crennel have been informed that they will not be brought back next season.
Let’s check out the timeline:
From a more than reliable source: Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel have officially been told they will NOT be back next year. #Chiefs

Wright’s report was quickly checked our and refuted by a couple of sources.
In fact, Nick Wright of 610-AM in Houston, who has previously covered the Chiefs in Kansas City, reported this afternoon that Pioli and Crennel have officially been told they will not be back next year. However, a league source tells PFT that Crennel and Pioli have not been given that message.
Then Ian Rapoport from NFL Network:
#Chiefs source says report from @getnickwright on Crennel/Pioli informed they won’t be back is innacurate. Decisions made after the season

Wright responded a bit later:
#Chiefs source is wrong RT @rapsheet #Chiefs source says report from Nick Wright on Crennel/Pioli informed they won’t be back is innacurate.

So what does all this mean?
Probably not a lot. If I had to guess, I’d say Wright’s source is probably accurate. Once a report like this breaks, I am sure it is pretty easy for other reporters to find inside sources that will refute it but that doesn’t mean the original source was lying.
Regardless of whose sources are accurate, Pioli and Crennel are probably on their way out. We’ll probably just have to wait two more weeks before we know for sure.
