2013 NFL Mock Draft: The Kansas City Chiefs Select…

The folks over at FanSided.com will be releasing weekly 2013 NFL mock drafts from now right up until zero hour. Each Tuesday, we’ll being you a recap of who they have the Chiefs choosing and we’ll link you the mock.

Last, week, the Chiefs selected QB Matt Barkely out of USC. While Barkley wasn’t the most popular pick, most of our readers seemed happy with the QB selection.

Now on to this week.

With the first pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia.

Here is what they had to say about the pick.

The Kansas City Chiefs need to find a franchise signal-caller. There is no debating that. Unfortunately for Kansas City, this is a weak year to have the first-overall pick but they need to grab the top quarterback on the board in hopes of moving the franchise forward. In the 2013 NFL Draft class, the top quarterback is none other than Geno Smith.

I am still doing my research but as of now this would be my pick. I know that Smith cooled somewhat after a very hot start. Still, he has an impressive skill set for a QB, he takes care of the football and he has very solid down-field accuracy… something a Chiefs QB hasn’t had since, well, maybe ever.

hate it, hate it, hate it. Why couldn’t we have sucked like this last year for RG3 or Luck? Damn, we can’t even tank a season right!

Everybody says geno isn’t worth the number 1 overall pick, well if we take him it certainly won’t break my heart

I say there are 3 options here. Chiefs can take Geno, Te’o LB from Notre Dame, or take shutdown CB to play across from flowers. If the chiefs take either Te’o or a CB then they will have to turn to either free agency, or a trade to pick up a QB. I believe if the chiefs were to pick up anybody this offseason it would have to be Alex Smith. He has proven what he can do and he is also a heck of a lot better than any QB the chiefs have right now.

If Greg McElroy continues to play well, or if the Jets go with Tim Tebow and he plays well, I wouldn’t mind the Chiefs getting Mark Sanchez. We have a better supporting cast on offense than the Jets. NO on Michael Vick. Alex Smith would be a good choice, only if he utilizes what Harbaugh taught him. But if we draft anyone other than a QB in the draft, it should be a (dare I say it) defensive end, or a WR. Not to mention whoever we get at QB i DO NOT wanna see the number 7 on their jersey. 7 was my favorite number before Matt Cassel ruined it

Im not that big a fan on Sanchez he is just as bad at giving the ball over than matt cassell is. I still think chiefs go with Smith, hell I wouldnt mind them going out and getting McElroy.

Are you reall going to pass on Vick for Sanchez ?… that was most dumbest thing i ever heard from anyone really Sanchez over Vick … I would take Vick over any qb in free agency besides Flaco.

Geno Smith hasn’t had a terrible game this season, so I don’t know why people give him so much crap. The most picks he’s thrown in a game this year is 2, vs Oklahoma, and he threw 4 TDs in that game as well. If we can get West Virginia’s top WR Tavon Austin as well in the early 2nd round that would help Geno out a lot. I can’t trust our receivers to help out a rookie QB. I know that there are a lot of studs on defense coming into the draft, but we will have to wait until the 3rd round in my opinion. West Virginia’s defense doesn’t give Geno any help, either. If we finish with the 1st or 2nd pick, we should trade down a few slots, make sure we stay ahead of other teams that may wanna draft a QB, and grab him there.

    To all the Geno bandwagon,

Go Youtube WVU vs TCU watch the full game and count how many balls should of been INTs. *Nice hailmary Geno ..at 0:39:00* Takes care of the football?
Watch other deep passes. this dude chucks it up hailmary style alot! Not “solid down-field accuracy” he under throws the deep ball alot. watch “film” of all the games. I study football, not watch it.

His numbers are empty & padded vs dog crap Defs the first 5 games of the season. Geno isn’t what you all think he is. NFL defs arn’t as forgiving as college. College doesn’t even have any good defs. [The only thing that impresses me is ND's RZ def.] Go study the “film” on this guy! Does anyone do any work or just watch highlights?

Watch his game vs Oklahoma the best defense he faces. And watch him fire the ball to austin and bailey right on the money.

The statement this is a week year at QB is at best speculation and total BS no one knows. This time last year was Washington planning on selling the farm for RGIII, no. Sure there where scouts eyeing him and several people proclaiming his greatness, but it wasn’t until the seasons end and scout evaluations started before he stood out as number 2 or arguably number 1.

I think i need to write an article on what the chiefs need because i dont think people undestand the x and o’s of what we need to be a great team !
