Chiefs Put Glenn Dorsey On IR (UPDATE)

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports is reporting that the Chiefs have placed DE Glenn Dorsey on IR. This move not only puts an end to Dorsey’s season, but likely his time with the Chiefs. A quote from La Canfora:

Dorsey has likely played his last game for the team with his season now over ………The sides are not working on an extension.

Frankly, it’s not a big loss for the Chiefs. Not only has his replacement, Ropati Pitoitua, been outperforming him, but the Chiefs also just signed Shaun Smith, who was a solid 3-4 DE for KC in Crennel’s system a couple years ago. I like Dorsey as a run stopper, but he has shown zero pass rush for KC and most seem to think he should go to a team running a 4-3 where he can play DT. Dorsey was the #5 overall pick for the Chiefs in 2008.

So what do you think, Addicts? Is Glenn Dorsey done in KC? Will you miss him?

UPDATE: Word is that DB Neiko Thorpe will be promoted from the practice squad to take Dorsey’s place. This move, while uninspiring, makes sense given that KC cut a DB in Stanford Routt when they signed Shaun Smith who essentially replaces Dorsey in the DL ranks.

Yes he is done, no I will not miss him.

I would like to keep him here…at about 1/20th of his current salary…that would make sense!

    • Lyle Graversen

Doubt he’ll resign here where he would likely just be a rotational player with the emergence of Pitoitua when he could probably get a chance to start for a 4-3 team. The only way I see us even attempting to resign him would be if we hired a new coach who wants to go to a 4-3, but with the success that guys like Hali, Houston, and DJ have had in the 3-4, I’m not sure a switch is worth it just to make a home for Dorsey who hasn’t shown near as much upside as those three.

That is how I see it too Lyle. The sad thing is if we had no switched to the 3/4 scheme he probably has a much better career. Shit happens!

I completely agree with you both, I do have a point to make about your statement Lyle…what if, and why not switch back to a 4-3 defense? You mentioned our 3 stud LB’s, which happen to be both OLB and MLB. If not, well then that’s why I stated “at about 1/20th of his current salary” which would make him just above minimum salary, and definitely place him a rotational player only…meaning obvious running downs.

Thanks to Haley. We tried to put round pegs – Jackson, Dorsey, Gilberry and Hali into square holes with only one out of 4 measuring up to their projected potential.

You may not miss Dorsey but will you miss the #1 pick in the next draft needed to replace him? Will you miss out on the QB of the future while Pioli drafts another Jackson? No Parker, you will not miss much. Just 3-4 more years of crappy huntchiefs team. the same team the ESPN who today said “were not worthy of mentioning”

  • http://twitter.com/aharp31 Big Jim

Yes he is gone and without any embarressment of being set down for poor performance. Now if only he would take tm1946 with him then I would not miss either one.

    Bye Glenn. Experiment over.

He may not be going anywhere. He certainly is not going to command much on the open market.

The irony: Chiefs pick top 5 again in 2013, and from what I hear, it’s a DL stacked draft. The QB talent doesn’t look as good as I was hoping it to. Aside: are Barkley or Smith worth the #1 pick? Is there another QB out there better?

  • KC98682

Hey think about it if he is better off in a 4-3 defense? well everyone is calling for cronell’s head, if he leaves who doesn’t say the new Defensive Coordinator doesn’t run a 4-3 Defense? I think Dorsey is a victim of circumstance’s Wrong player drafted for Wrong defense! I wouldn’t be surprised by any moves we do or don’t make in the off seasons!
