Stanford Routt Clears Waivers

The Kansas City Chiefs cut CB Stanford Routt earlier this week, allowing him to be potentially claimed on waivers by any of the other 31 NFL teams.

But no team claimed Routt.

If Routt had been claimed it would have been good for the Chiefs. The new team would have picked up the rest of Routt’s contract. Unfortunately, none of the other GMs in the NFL are stupid.

They all passed, meaning Routt is now a free agent. It also means the Chiefs still have to pay Routt his $1.8 million base salary.

Just think, the Chiefs are paying Routt $1.8 million for Javier Arenas to get burned by the Steelers on Monday night.

Routt is also collecting $5 million from the Oakland Raiders.

Since he is getting paid not to play for a couple of teams, Routt will likely be just fine with signing a base salary deal with some team to finish out the season. Don’t be shocked if he signs with the New England Patriots for the league minimum, plays well for them and wins a Super Bowl this season.

That, my friends, is Scott Pioli putting the Patriot Way into action.
